Work In Progress : Moviestar Honda PONS NSR500 *First bike that im making :)

Alright...! Got this from a massive collection of kits that i just bought. Most of these kits are out of production and mostly are quite rare , so it was a steal!
First bike model i bought and first bike model that ill build. Not really into bikes but over time , i slowly fell in love with the detailing and workmanship people in AF do. From what i hear bikes are harder to do compared to cars as detailing must be perfect because there is no space for errors nor space to hide errors. I hope this turns out well.

Working on the bottom cowl right now , just sanded the top cowl piece. Not much mold lines so it was a breeze.

Model will be painted with Pure White. Rims are stated as Chrome yellow , But is yellow ok? Maybe someone with reference pictures could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

If you have the possibility to get your hands on Chrome Yellow I would use that for the rimbs.

Just a small update . Decal the stuff on the bottom cowl , i made afew mistakes which i tried to touch up as much as possible.. sadly i havent took pictures of it yet... so the pictures that u see now are those of that when the decals was still wet just after taking it off the decal sheet and laying them on.

Sanded the dust off and to level the paint .. then gave it a light rub of compound.

Tough choice for your first bike - good luck!! This has got to be one of the most difficult decalling jobs, but it looks good so far. :)

You've done a great job so far, a couple of clear coats and the small wrinkles won't be visible.

Hmm i managed to get a reasonable finish on the bottom cowl... right now the whole cowl is connected together via masking tape as i have to aline the decals...

Really great finish you got there after some polishing! My hat off for that.
Engine will not be so troublesome, look at some ref pics and add some cables if you want, they really add to the build.
Regarding the painting of the insides of the cowls (if you are using an airbrush), try using flat black enamel paint after the cowls are all done, spray the insides and wipe possible excess off with a q-tip dipped in enamel thinner. Works wonders.

Another option should you decide to get a little more adventurous, is to purchase a sheet or two of the carbon fiber decal material. Apply a good gloss coat to the inside of the cowl, then, using a low tack masking tape, make a template for the inside of the cowlings. Remove the template as one piece, apply to the back of the decal sheet and then trim it out leaving about 2mm excess and apply. It can get pretty hairy on some of these cowlings, but it is doable. I just did one for my Kenny Roberts Jr. 00' Movistar Suzuki. Took forever to get it done, but it looks pretty good to me. Just a thought. Matt-:)

CF is not really a problem for me... have done it on many cars and used on detailing them. But i dont see a point in bikes as its all covered up.. actually thinking about it.. i really only use them on f1 and highly detailed kits like the enzo. :lol:

Seriously, you gotta try riding a motorcycle at least once. You'll be hooked and it'll definitely help you understand a little more the details that you're modeling (how everything connects, why and how...).

Ok things are turning out preetty al-right... not the best of decals i ever done but its quite ok considering i covered all the parts where i tore the decals at , or made holes while trying to remove bubbles. Anyway in the 3 picture ull see a spot which ill try to touch up after i work out the decals at the top which are drying. Trying to take my time doing the decals so i can let the layers dry fully then apply the decals that are suppose to above(like the number of the bike at the front) and cover errors properly. I used clear blue to cover errors made at the top cowl.. i apply light coats and slowly build up until i get the correct tone of body colour.
