96 Tracker spark issues

Hello,
I have a '96 Geo Tracker with the 1.6 Litre SOHC 16 valve engine. It has the throttle body injection and electronic distributor with the coil built in it. My problem is that I have a very weak spark. I checked the primary and secondary resistance on the coil which is in spec according to the manual. I replaced the cap and rotor and still no improvement. The spark is so weak it can't support a timing light when hooked up to the plug wires. A new distributor is $400 so I want to make sure that is it before I start replacing stuff. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but it seems like every time I get out of the vehicle I get a good shock from the door. Could there be a grounding issue somewhere? Thanks.

How old are the spark plugs and what brand did you use? Did you replace the spark plug wires? and are they shielded? Timing light works properly on another vehicle?
