Aoshima's FC3s

Hey all,

This is the Aoshima FC3s kit, the "early version". Pretty neat, and in some aspects it's better than Tamiya's kit; it comes with separate side moldings, and window masks which saves the builder a lot of masking hassle. Then again, it doesn't include an engine, and the chassis and front/side window details are wrong (Aoshima used their FD chassis for this kit, and the front and side windows seem to be from the late version FC, since they have frosted edges.

Aoshima includes a separate hood, but the engine room itself is molded shut :banghead: . Wonderful. Not as wonderful as those Fujimi kits with engines and molded shut bonnets, but Aoshima gets close. So, I had no choice but to cut it open by using an X-acto. Once I penetrated the plastic, I cut the leftover plastic away by using a polyester sewing wire - much faster than cutting it all with a blade.

This car has some subtle mods done to it; I cut out the front grille teeth and put on some sideskirts (are they GP sports?) which Aoshima includes in the kit. The wheels I'll be using are Workmeister S1s with black centers and a chrome lip. I'll put an FD engine in it, with a bigger turbo and the top-mount intercooler from the Tamiya FC kit. I decided to ditch the chassis Aoshima provided and use the Tamiya FC one instead.

Enough talking, here are some pics;

I'm not sure what spoiler I'll use. The wing depicted below is the stock one.

Below you see one from Fujimi's GT-Tuning Set. It's CF-ed and has a Koenig decal on it - it's not quite finished yet, but you get the idea. Any opinions?

I'd not use the stock wing, and the GT wing doesn't look right without a radical bodykit. have you considered going wingless? sometimes, less is more. that looks really nice with the silver paint, and the black rims with polished lip. keep up the good work!!

Personally, I like the stock wing, or wingless, but that GT wing looks out of place.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, I considered not using a wing at all, but then again the car might handle badly. It won't have a stock FC engine, but this one;

It needs something to keep the power of the real wheels down, no?

Engine looks nice, but the turbos intake pipe shouldn't go to IC. There should be an airfilter, and the compressor should be connected to IC with a pipe. Dunno If You get my point, but use the search to find turbo pictures and drawings how they work and shoul be assembled. Nice progress, can't wait to see this finished.

Okay, thanks! I'm not too engine savvy, so I could well have done a few things wrong. What do you mean by a compressor?

I did yhe search for You and here's one quite explainotory pic of turbo layout:

Hope this helps! Now You have connected the IC where the Downpipe (=exhaust pipe) should go i.e. You have attached the turbocharger wrong way.

Using the colors in the diagram above, I modified your picture, so you can work from there.

Thanks Hiro and Uninen, those schemes will come in really helpful! Seems like it isn't too difficult to correct, I'll see if I can find a racing style air filter in the parts box.

Some interior progress and engine mock-up;

Ahmadinejad doesn't come with the kit, he's from the Fujimi drivers set. The tachograph (sp?), seats and decals on the dashboard are all from Aoshima's Drift parts set.

A big wing isn't really that useful in a street car, it's just decoration. And in this case, the decoration doesn't look good :shakehead. And a big wing on the back without anything at the front could make the handling worse.

I would go for the clean wingless look with the silver paint and black wheels. That colour combination looks great! Nice work so far :smokin:

I'm not a fan of the wing either. Everything else looks great!!! Keep it up!
