whats up guys, i just registered and thought i'd leave my hi im new here thread. i just recently came accross my car about a month ago. i have a basic understanding of turbo motors, but this one is going to take some more learning and i thought this would be a great place to start.

i do have a question, the guy who owned the car before i bought it put in the boost controller. it was boosting about 15 pounds, 1st and 2nd gear pulls real hard but 3rd and 4th hits about 4k rpm and there's a drastic loss of power. the rpm's start backing down. i've backed down the boost hoping that would solve this problem but it didn't seem to. is this fuel cutoff? i have ordered 450cc injectors, i haven't bought a bigger fuel pump however. after wiring up the safc it is imperative to take it to the dyno? or is it a user friendly unit to tweak with? me and my buddy will be doing it, he has more knowledge about it than i do. and that's the only problem i am facing with the car right now, it's in impressive condition for a 93. any help would be much appreciated.

you can easily street tune a safc, also upgrade your fuel pump and or hotwire the stock one. But dyno is fun, its a good way to see where you stand curretnly and where you want to go with the HP! I would suggest investing in a data logger

seems like you know more than most newcomers to the platform. And your on the way list looks good too. Hopefully the fuel and NGK plug/wires upgrades you are getting will solve this problem for ya. Datalogger is definitely well worth the money though, you may want to look into one if you like to tweak.

Definantly get the datalogger. It should be the first mod for any 1st gen vr4 owner.
Also as far as the loss of power up top. Is it like an on and off hesitation? Rather than going iridium plugs, get some cheap NGK coppers and gap them down to .32. You might just have spark blowout. Our TTs work great with coppers, and tey are dirt cheap. The only downfall is you have to replace them every 10k. But once you get practice it can be down in 30 mins. Might also want to change your fuel filter if you don't know the last time that was done.

lol, my japanese car has better (and in many cases more) cup holders than my friends fords and chevy's. lol
but yeah I wonder what the old owner was thinking when he put the boost gauge there. its a wonder he kept the car between the lines.

i would get the coppers, now, but i already got the iridiums on the way. im not sure about the fogs...they weren't there when i picked it up. i haven't taken the cup holder for a test drive yet. as for the datalogger, i'm not real familiar with them. any suggestions on brand/model would be much appreciated. oh yea, one other thing...the car is currently in my parents driveway at home in maine. i bought her there on leave and came back to post. i've made the arrangements to have it shipped down by national auto transport. it was SUPPOSED to be picked up last monday, a week ago. now i'm jumping through hoops to get them to pick it up. it's not worth dealing with them anymore, does anyone know any reputable door to door national transporters?

i've heard nightmare stories about some transfer companies. Honestly I'm too drunk to remember which ones...but my advice is fly there, pick it up and drive it home if at all possible. It's so worth the hassle if it saves you from a legal catastrophe. Next topic, that boost gauge is in a horrible spot IMO, because you dont' want to look down, you wanna watch it and the road at the same time, but obviously not your fault, so whatever. Um, the iridiums, some people have sucess with the, some dont. If you already ordered them, try them, see how they work for you.
Datalogger...there might be a section in the FAQ (possibly 2nd page) on dataloggers. If there isn't. Do a search for 'datalogger'. Read any and every post by Linebckr...he has thoroughly researched the topic and has great insight into it. He'll point you in the right direction.

yea this is definately turning into a nightmare, i wish i could fly home and drive it back...right now it's not really an option for me however. i should have done that in the first place, but i didn't want to put 2000 miles on it driving from maine to oklahoma. i will look more thoroughly in the FAQ for dataloggers, i read down through the first page but haven't got much further yet. thanks for all the advice.

Well since your car looks identical to mine, (dark green 1st gen vr4), I have to say I like your car, but I'm baffled why you have a chrome rim on the back and the stock rim in the front??

Oh I didn't catch the U-haul comment earlier.. but this is important.
If you are going to rent a U-haul trailer, DO NOT tell them you are towing a 3000gt. Tell them it's something light like an 89 Civic. Apparently they are extremely anal about towing and have some ass-backwards rules. Read this (http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=352271&highlight=uhaul).

i thought that's what it was at first. but upon closer inspection, i think he has chromes all around, just the lighting caused the front tire to look stock. i dunno, i could be way off.

Well, I guess I'm late on this but I'll toss this out anyhow. I used AAA Automovers to ship my Stealth from Michigan. My only complaint was lack of communication, but for a fair price they picked the car up at his house and dropped it off at mine. I can tell you to never use Dependable Auto Shippers.

i will not depend on a single auto shipping compnay for the rest of my life. this one has a complete lack of communication, customer service and competance. never, under any circumstances, should any of you consider national auto transport. on a happier note, my shipment from 3SX came today  when i get my car back, which we will be reacquainted saturday evening, i have to drive the 2000 miles back down here and i will begin the installation.

Yeah, he had already ordered them before someone suggested the copper plugs. Besides, the iridiums are great, they just cost a lot. Plus he won't have to change them for a LONG time.
As for shipping, I understand what you mean. I was very frustrated with the shipping company, but the guy that picked up the car was great. I have his number in case I ever need a car shipped again, I'll call him. I've also gone to pick up a car as well. That is more fun; except we didn't have AC and we were in Ohio in the middle of summer. Also, no radio.
It makes for interesting memories. Looks like you'll be having some fun when you finally get it.
