New GTO to be based on Camaro Platform

Just read in the latest Road & Track magazine that the 2009 Camaro will share its platform with the GTO. Being that the Camaro has shared its platform with the Firebird since almost the begining, dont you guys think its a little wrong to be sharing the Camaro platform with the GTO?

Yes but it's all business, the firebird is dead (sorry) and the GTO is popular in the market. If they were smart, they'd bring back the trans am on that chassis.

The "platform" of the GTO is just the rolling chassis (frame). Since it is a full frame vehicle and not a uni-body, they can make the cars based on it look like anythng they want. Its not to say they won't look similar, but there is no reason they have to.

the trans am will never come back...pontiac has a vision thats going another way. they stress time in and out that they have no reason to bring it back. but the gto base is cool, its really a nice car, but they wont look the same at all its just a baseline

Lets not forget they stressed the same exact thing about the Camaro. I wouldn't be blown over if a Firebird/Trans Am makes its way onto showroom floors within the next decade, I however unlike most other Firebird owners am hoping that the Firebird/Trans Am stays dead.

Cause the resale value of us current Firebird owners will continue to climb if we are the last of the breed. The only option for those seeking Firebird/Trans Am performance will be the used car market.
