Installed AutoMeter Pro shift light inside the center vent. It was an easy install. Took a while to figure out how to secure the light & proper placement since there isn't much room. I wiggled and finally found a place where no screws are needed. There is just a slight amount of pressure to keep is still. Found a place to pull the wires through & connected. MSD SCI box is mount just behind the glove box on the heat ducting & has a tach hook right on the side where the shift light can be connected if not using aftermarket tach.

autometer shift lites come with pills that you plug into the light to tell it when to come on, I think they run about 80 bucks. My local Trak Auto store can order them.

I ordered only the light from summit racing. The light was $65.00 & the RPM pills are $20 for a set. I went with 6,000rpm kit which included 6000 - 6200 - 6400 - 6600 - 6800

I'm pretty sure VTEC kicks in at 5 grand but could be wrong. Whats the point in a shift light?

From what Ive been told VTEC activates at 5200 rpm. At least thats what my friends JDM B16a does. I have heard even higher numbers but from what ive seen and driven its around 52-5400.
The point in a shift light is to warn the driver or let the driver know that he/she has or is about to approach redline in that respective gear. Pretty useless if you ask me but I could use one considering my car has no tach and it very quiet. But if your car is loud I dont believe you should be using one since the motor is very audible. But its just another light to put on your dash. and hey its fun. I think someone should make a light that flashes like this:flash: that might be cool. no, I take that back it will be annoying, like those cell phone antennas that flash the same way. Ok enough ranting.

Activates at 5200 on the SOHC engines (d16y5, y8) and at 4700 - 4800 on a GSR.

You can set a shift light to come on whenever you want, so it lights and you know to shift with out watching your tach.

id rather have a shift light hidden from view than a big ass 5" tach blocking vision.
