speedometer cable

I have an '88 CRX Si and when the speedometer cable broke, the check engine light came on and stayed on until I got it fixed. I am looking at possibly putting a dakota digital instrument cluster in this car ...... how can I trick the ECU into thinking the speedo cable is still attached.
