4wd Crx?

Does the gas tank placement on the CRX prohibit the swap of 4WD gear from a Wagon or a CRV?
I've heard it said that it does, but wanted to know if anybody has put serious thought into trying it.
Also does the tranny off a wagon need more room. The Wagon is a few inches wider, but I don't know if it has anything do with the running gear.
Let me know if this can be done or if its utterly impossible.
(wouldn't it be nice to whop up on some TSi's?)

I've never heard of anyone successfully doing this so far.

It's possible but not even close to worth it. First it just installing it would be labor intensive and rather $$$. The setup as a whole is just too weak to support the abuse it would get from being driven really hard. You'd be snapping axles and blowing differentials left and right, it just wouldn't be worth it.

Yes it does block it. The Transfer from the wagon won't handle much more than 130bhp - then it blows (discovered from bolting a ZC into a wagon and adding turbo). CRV might handle it better I suppose, but if you want a 4WD performance car, it's prolly cheaper buying one that has 4WD already :)

Man, to have a 4g civic that would run down a DSM. That would be the s@#t!!!

you dont need 4wd to beat a dsm, you can beat plenty of dsm's the only problem is knowing if they have stock 14b turbo *i think thats it* or like a 16g or a 20g or whatever, but most of them around here are stock tsi's or gst's with a bov, but theres one white gsx with a 16g i leave him alone..........

Even with the stock 14b turbo it would take alot of mods on your civic to run him down. My friends has a 90 rs with stock 14b and some mods and tweaks and he smokes almost anything that challenges. Its my goal to get my civic close to him.

why would he............n/m he better upgrade his engine before he upgrades a turbo if hes thinking about going bigger turbo on a non turbo engine *well stock*

what's a dsm?

The engine is a turbo engine with the stock 14b turbo. Its not a non turbo engine. DSM = Diamond Star Motors.

The 1990 Laser RS is a turbo car, trust me, he has two. It came with 4G63 DSM motor and 14b turbo.

specify this next time, i thought you were talking about an eclipse

you could probably beat him all engine in a civic if he just has a stock turbo laser

Oh, i see the confusion now, sorry. The 90 eclipse rs was the low model. The laser came in 3 versions of RS, 2 rs (one 8 valve sohc, one 16 valve dohc) both non-turbo. The third being the RS Turbo.

its all good, when i 1st set out to buy a car i almost had a 90 eclipse with the dohc 16 vavle engine swapped into it, so i geuss it was the base model eclipse, the guy had a candy apple paint job and painted interrior and everything the only thing wrong was needed new back brakes so the guy said he would take off 400 on the price so i was like fuk it but his dumb ass wife sold it the next morning when he was at work

How about RWD fourth gen? I saw one out at the track one night. He rolled up to do his burnout and put his front wheels out side the water. Everybody was like what the fuck, then his rear wheels started smoking. It was very sick.

What about wheelie bars on a FWD Civic/CRX? Yhat would keep the front tires to the pavement, and avoid some of the weight transfer issues our FWD cars deal with, and if you have enough power, you might be able to catch a DSM.
Those silly AWD DSM cars are weird IMO, they squat and look funny on take-off....but whoever thought about turbo and AWD made 'em pretty quick (relatively speaking of course) ;)
