96 Cougar help

My cougar(96 v6 3.8) wont start. It cranks but has now spark. I was told to change the Ignition Control module but I can't find it and my car does not have a distributor. Can someone please help me...i was told like 5 different locations

coil pack is good and its not there

I checked and I can't find a module on a 1996 3.8L cougar they have one on a 1995 by the bellows close to air intake.
I think the camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor on the lower right front of engine are your problem. If you have an ohm meter with the units disconnected and the ohm meter on the two contacts it should go from zero to one when somebody cranks the engine. I would try the camshaft sensor first.

well according to the ford dealership they told me there is most deffinately one there but where they told us to look its not there.

We changed the camshaft and crankshaft already but they werent the problem.

so if anyone can tell me what they think. Pretty soon were going to have looked all over the engine for this darn thing

It has a powertrain control module pcm behind right cowl panel. Check ground wire behind right side of I/P on "A" pillar.Ground left frontcorner of engine compartment. Ground behind right cowl panel.Behind I/P right of steering column. Right front of vehicle on upper radiator support.
The 1995 has a module right side of engine compartment.
I am using a 1996 and 1997 wiring diagram and a module isn't shown. I would check the constant control relay module right front of engine on radiator support and the ground on the right front radiator support. A loose ground won't allow you to start. If you have a logic probe or volt meter I would check the red lt/blu wire for pulse to the coil.
I can't help you any more because my wiring diagram doesn't show one. Ford should know if they sell it.
Ask them to show you a wiring diagram with the location on it. Depending on date of mfg. it might a 1995.

will a loose ground also cause no spark?

The eec relay supplies power to the computer system the ground is needed to energise the coil to work the relay. The ground on the radiator support is for the eec relay. If the relay has 4 prongs the two small ones are for relay power. I have used a no.10 wire with two male prongs plugged into the relay slots the vehicle started and I went to ford and bought a new relay. I had a loose ground on my 1984 t-b and it wouldn't start. Somebody else on this forum with a bronco did the same as you when he tightened the ground it started last week.
All grounds I listed are for the computer.
