After recently spensing a good sum of money on new tires, shock, struts, etc., we now are having transmission problems. Our Odyssey has 139,000 miles. Is it worth having the transmission fixed at this point, or should we cut our losses?

I can tell you...that honda is going through a lot of transmission legal problems. I know this from expreiance. You should bring your Ody to the dealership and have it looked at and insist on having it good willed. Honda just lost a class action lawsuit concerning all ody and accord 6 cylinder transmissions. the dealer will probably put up a fight...but in the end, you will probably get it warrantied. I would try that first.
If you decide to get a new transmission installed...you will find the price of about 3500 or around that.
Good luck to you.

Unless you have had ongoing problems with the transmission on your van the chances of a goodwill repair are slim to none. If this is the first time the transmission has gone out at 140k I doubt they will do anything for you.
