daughter's car started acting up today. flashing check engine light, minor miss felt at idle, driving generally seems OK. diagnostic check at autozone revealed 300 code for multiple cylinder misfire,302 code for cylinder #2 misfire and some other tranny related code that he said only dealer can read. suggested changing plugs. replaced with bosch platinum plugs at .050 gap, those that came out were about .075 gapped. drove car back to autozone to clear computer and perform another check. while driving thinking it felt better but not just right still. autozone had trouble linking this time then codes 300 & 302 remained, tranny code was gone I think. since #2 cylinder was implicated he sold me a wire for this cylinder only. not sure if there was an improvement at first, check engine light gone. while driving home light returned. the miss is still there. any suggestions on what my process of elimination should be? I am capable mecahnically and own multi meter for tests. any help is greatly appreciated. also, should car be laid up until problem is corrected? is flashing light a major issue? thanks in advance.

First take those POS Bosch spark plugs back, get your money back and get a set of Champions instead.Chrysler products run like crap with Bosch spark plugs and run better with Champions.I know about this after replacing an engine in one.It ran lake crap, had Bosch spark plugs and pitched them.Put in a set of Champions and ran a whole lot better.Get a high quality set of plug wires at Carquest or any top of the line parts stores.Stay away from AutoZone and Advanced for plug wires,They sell the cheapest plug wires that you will replace a lot of times.

thanks for response, will address plugs and wires after I fix problem. had a chance to check a few things. found that #2 cylinder has little to no spark. all others OK. ruled out bad wires (good resistance between 4 & 10 Kohm). coil looks good on primary (about .7 ohm) and secondary (about 12.5 Kohm). what brings signal to coil and what would affect only #2 cylinder? car starts and idles OK but is noticeably missing #2 cylinder to keep it from being perfectly smooth. any help is greatly appreciated.

I would clean the top of the coil where the plug wire clips on it also may be lose and you can tighten it with needle nose pliers also check the plug end. It looks like 3&6 have the same driver.red/yel wire.Power train control module. If this doesn't help try another plug make sure and gap.

thanks. even though it bench tested fine it turned out to be bad coil pack.

well my good news was good for less than one day. i replaced the coil pack after doing all prescribed checks from haynes manual i picked up. even the coil pack bench tested fine but it was suggested that maybe it fails under load. the car drove fine after coil replacement. i reset the computer to clear the check engine light and told my daughter she was good to go. she uses the car the next day and when she returns from work she said the car did not run fine. it is now late but i go out to do a quick check. the car is noticeably missing again but this time it surges every once in a while. i grab my timing light to do a quick check to see each cylinder firing and sure enough, #2 is not firing but this time, unlike the days before, every so often it does fire thus causing the surge. every other cylinder is OK. check engine light is back on but not flashing this time. do the key dance and it returns only code 43. so it seems the coil pack was not the problem and i have to guess that all the wiring is intact but something is causing the #2 cylinder not to get its signal. i can't find a wiring diagram anywhere not even in the haynes manual i bought. what gives this signal? is it likely it is the pcm and how can i check? i suppose the cam position sensor must work since it picks up every other cylinder but what's the possibility it doesn't pick up only the #2 signal for some reason? i'm really frustrated by this and really want to try and help my kid avoid expense of shop work. any suggestion is greatly appreciated. as you can see, i sit here at 3 am scouring the internet for a clue.

If you go to http://www.alldata.com/ they sell a one years subscription for one vehicle it used to be $15.00 They have complete wiring diagrams and other information. You can print a wiring diagram off.
Check coil grounds rear of engine right front frame rail. I think as the coil has 3 drivers from the computer. Check the other wire the caravan fires 3&6,2&5,1&4. The other plug wire is used as a ground. Re ohm both no. 2&5 plug wires. Move the wires around in your hand with the meter on them. You might have a minute break in the wire fires but doesn't work as a ground. Normally the problem is within 4 inchs of the plug which you can cut and recrimp the end on it.
