wip- Hunting Jeep

Heres something i have been working on,
a 1977 Jeep CJ-7, making it into a hunting jeep

I cut off the rear fenders, and the winch has real steel cable in it, " i used steel fishing line leader"

this is where i am at so far.

Amazing work on the details, i love the little roof with the attachment wire, the steel winch, the gorgeous weathering!

You wouldn't by any chance know why they cut the rear fenders off in real life? Just wondering

Well Hunting Jeep wouldn’t be complete with out a rifle.
So I made one from aluminum tubing and a popsicle stick.

I use rust color pastels.

Looking most excellent! Very nice details and scratchwork. I like how it's subtly done, not over the top. Extremely realistic.

Great work on this. The extra little touches really add life to this. The rifle is excellent as is the gear in the back. Quite a different direction from the fantastic nascar builds you usually show us.

Where did you find the 1:24 jerry cans?
those come in the kit, and the bottom "tray" is molded onto them...
you can get some cool ones in the Fujimi garage tools kit also!

The rear fenders on a CJ are plastic trim pieces I believe, same with the front beyond the turn signal. They generally take the trim pieces off to cut the body tub to allow large tires to be used.

the 'fenders' were added on mostly to cover the tires .. so that the jeep would be legal in all states .. some stats (tho it is rarely enforced) have laws that require the tires to be covered by the body (not exact wording) and a jeep without those little peices of plastic has tires that stick out past the sheet metal a little bit ...

That err.... paint (or lackthereof) looks great. Your attention to the little details is amazing. The only suggestion I could make would be regarding the front fenders. As stated earlier, they were black plastic and would weather differently than the rest of the steel body, unless they were meant to be painted that way by the owner as "camoflage". Can't wait to see more. :)
