1998 Rolla Question???

Hi Toyota guy's,
My son is looking to buy a 1998 Corolla, 98,000 miles. I looked at the car today and it seems to run very very smooth. The Question is while it's running I opened the oil cap and felt quite abit of blow by pressure. Is this normal for the 1.8 engine or should we be looking elsewhere for a car????
Thanks for your time............
Dino

Good to see folks that really check a car out when buying

I'm not sure about the the newer modells, I've had a 85, 88, & 89 and the PCV design is not the greatest in any of the ones I have had. I usually replace em at every other oil change at most.

If it's not blowing smoke (blue in this case) then I wouldnt be too overly worried. If it were me and it still bugged me, I'd ask if I could pull a spark plug or 2 and see what's going on.

Thanks for your response Wrightz28.
A friend of mine told me today that the newer toyota engine's don't have a PCV system in them anymore, it's a sealed system? Anyway were buying the car this Friday because it seems to run very strong and feels pretty tight, and we know the 50 year old lady who own's it.
Thanks again for your help..........

Although, I'd hate to disagree with that I have (or have not seen in this case), that can't be. Crankcase vapors can't be sealed, the case would swell and go kablewie! Also, they are listed for sale and on the component locator as being in the same old place, in the valve cover, "back" right side of motor. There's normally 2 hoses right there, top center on all the Toyota engines I've seen.

At any rate, I would highly doubt there could be that much wrong with i, given it's prior history.
