97 Jetta Manual Trans stalling

My daughters 97 jetta manual trans just started stalling, it seems when downshifting? She said it allmost stalled when shifting going up hill and stalled when pulling in driveway,shifting into 2nd? Ideas greatly appreciated!

2 things either the clutch isnt engaging properly or your throttle body needs to be cleaned up. I was having some problems with acceleration and idling, where the car shut off on me, when I clean out the throttle body I didnt have the problems anymore.

My 98 Jetta 2.0L manual trans had the same issue, until the Throttle Body was cleaned. It takes about an hour to do and is not complicated. Make sure the cleaning fluid is sensor compatible. Mine also had a single use clamp on a vacuum line, so the clamp had to be replaced as well.
