SRT4 motors blow easily. Everyday driving is ok. Everyday driving PLUS racing destroys them. I've seen a couple around here who's had problems.

He didn't blow the motor, he put better pistons in. IDK the area code, it's in Abilene TX. I will ask......

I have to disagree with you there. SRT bottom ends are beefier than a dsm. The crank is good for 1000hp rods 800+ and the pistons will do 500. Oh and They definatly blow dsms out of the water with reliability lol(not like its difficult) From all the research I've done I havent found anything to disprove that

I'm not arguing the facts of your research here but it seems to me that I have seen a lot more people drop the bottom ends out of their srt4's as opposed to dsm's.

Facts are facts, not argueing those neither, but from what I've seen, driving them hard is bad. Maybe because people don't do a full break in when they buy them new. IDK. I've seen 2 blown headgaskets and 2 block problems. They may be rataed for more power, but somethings not right IMO. I wouldn't buy one. They are quick though.

My guess is the people that have problems are the people that have no idea what they are doing. They go bouncing off rev limiter and turn the boost all the way up with no fuel mods which would explain the head gaskets and block issues depending on what exactly happened. I guess my :2cents: is that everything I've ever read says they are one of the best bangs for the buck but I guess I'll find out when I get mine :)

Would you happen to know if a stock fuel system could support 20psi on the stock turbo? Theres a guy running around my area running 20 lbs on stock fuel stuff, I didnt think that was the greatest idea..

Depends on the year. 03's have smaller injectors than 04s and 05s. Endlessheart666 is running 20 psi and high 12s on the stock fuel system and stock turbo but I think there is where the stage 1 ecu comes into play by adding more fuel than stock. There are people out there that are putting down 400+wtq on the stock turbo though so I think he should be ok. One think that I found quite interesting is that dodge rates the 03 at 215hp and 245ftlbs at the crank and the 04s and o5s at 230hp and 250ftlbs at the crank but I guess when dynoing the intercoolers were heat soaked so those numbers are actually what the car makes at the wheels and they put out close to 280hp at the crank

No, 20 psi can not be supported by the stock fuel system. He must be pulling timing like crazy which is what the PCM does to keep idiots from blowing their engines. 03's can run about 14psi and 04-05s can run 15-16psi on the stock fuel system.
The bottom end is quite stout. 500whp is pretty common to see on the stock block with an upgraded turbo and proper supporting mods. I don't know where some of you guys are getting your info but it's a little off. The piston/rods are good up to about 600hp max, crank is good for 700hp, none of which will be reliable at those power levels for long.

ok motor never blew i thought is did but the flywheel bolts backed out and it was knocking so i took the motor out and while it was out i replaced the clutch and flywheel and put new pistons and bearings on everything! he didnt mention the car also has a PTP ported and clipped turbo cappible of 28psi! just put the turbo on about a month ago so it is freshly rebuilt! the car has about 40k on it and the eng was rebuilt at 20k so the motor rebuild has almost 20k! thanks sean for posting this!

yes, ptperformance makes a "fpr" that raises the fuel pressure but then the injector is not in its "optimal" press...but it does work!

Man you're talking to me like l don't own an SRT-4. It is possible to run that much boost (as shown on the boost gauge), but more than likely the PCM will pull timing and you'll be making less power than stock. It's alot more to it than just AFRs.

I'm not trying to insult your knowledge. I'm just telling you what I know people have done. For example there is a thread on srtforums telling you how to hit the 300+whp mark and that states clearly that the stage 1 injectors will be provide more than enough fuel for the stock turbo, granted that is with the addition of a return line but none the less. Also the guy thats running 20psi on stockers with an 11:1afr is running close to 300whp and 330wtq with a high 12 quarter. Maybe its just me but that seems like it works. Again I'm not trying to argue more like debate

Exactly my point, you're not going to make 300whp let alone be able to run 20psi on the stock fuel system without timing being and even if you have an upgraded fuel system, you'll still need something like a piggyback to "trick" the PCM into thinking you're running less boost than 20psi.
I can almost guarantee that the guy you're refering to is not running 20psi without some sort of fuel/tuning upgrade.
