Is advancing the timing good or bad? Does it help out very much?

That's way to broad of a question. What kind of car, model, year, mods, and the purpose for asking the question.

There's an edit button for a reason.

And any particular reason why you want to advance the timing?

Advancing the timing means the the flux capacitor is setup up so it will shoot you back or forward into the future.

Why else would you want to change it... duh! ;-)

you won't need to touch timing with your set up.
