I was wondering what is the biggest engine you could fit in a 3rd gen(87 camaro) a 350sb or 400 sb

you could fit a 572 in there if you really wanted.

depends how much you want to spend, what tools and equipment you have access too and how far you want to go.

the least amount of money will a carbed 400 fit in the stock engine bay, no cutting or trimming just change the motor mounts

Yeah sure is , here is a short clip of a truck with a 454 and the same type blower I have on my LT1 http://media.putfile.com/Rubberen . He is a member on another board I belong to... Pretty bad ass truck

You'd need some serious sub frame conectors to contain that thing in a f-body and not twist it like a pretzel

is it a difficult job to do or just very time consuming to swap in a 400sb, and is there a 5 or 6 speed that will connect to the 400

a chevy 400 block has the same exact bolt pattern of every other SBC. So any tranny that was connected to either a SBC or LT1 will work. So you can get a T5 or T56 if you like.

Why couldn't you fit something bigger than a 572 in?

Because that is the biggest c.i.d. engine chevy sells

umm... just so the dude that started this thread knows, ALL chevy smallblocks are THE SAME SIZE on the outside (actually, i bet chevy made some taller deck versions, but for the most part their the same)

the only difference is power output and bigger displacements sound better. one thing you might need to look into is some bigger rear tires (wider not necessarily taller) and definately a posi rearend if you dont already have one. if you run an open rearend with stock size tires and a turbo350 or 400 transmission, a 400c.i. or even a 350 when souped up will burn out all the way up to 90 miles an hour or so. a big block possibly could do it with posi even though i doubt it.

i have a 400 sbc in my third gen. well actually its out now and in the machine shop being hot tanked and inspected and bored and then im gonna rebuild it all bad ass. but anyway it just bolts right back in as if your keeping the old 350 or 305. what ever you are starting out with. easy swap and if you build that thing up they are torque monsters

very true... im building a smaller 383(though still pretty big by smallblock standards), that should be able to muster somewhere around 500lb/ft of torque. if you build them right, a 350 can easily make a streetable 400+lb/ft and well over 400 horses also. its all in the combo

by the way, is it possible to fit a big block into the late 80's early 90's style IROC camaros? i have never seen one with a big block in it before and maybe they dont fit or something i dunno

a big block such as 454 is very close dimension wise to a SBC. So it should not be all that difficult to get one under the hood.

I've seen one with a 502 nessled in there, was like a really fine female with a low belt line and a lacy g-string poking out :D
