As many of you read, I recently crashed my car a little bit. One thing I've been thinking of doing while my car is in the body shop is to order those 3sx hood vents for my car and have them painted while they have the paint all mixed up.

They're subtle but they look pretty cool imo, but all I have to go on is those 3 pics on 3sx because I can't find any. Do you guys know anything about them? Also if you know where I can get more pictures of them I'd appreciate that too.

i think the price is way too much as well, and i dont like the look. The only benefit would be airflow, and for that price, you might as well save for a vented hood. :2cents:

ya, way too expensive. don't buy them, please. waste of money. only purpose is for venting heat out of the engine way, and they do look sorta cool. if you really want them, make your own. call you gotta do is remove your hood blister (bolts underneath hood), cut out an area on the backside wherever you want it, then put in (expoxy, bondo) a little mesh grill. it really wouldn't be that hard at all. now that i'm thinking of it, i kinda wanna try it.

ooo, 99 sail panels sound very tempting... anyone out there know much of the install difficulty? I might go check out stealth316 as well.

that whole 'make ur own vent' thing sounds kindof interesting. how hard is it to cut the stock fiberglass (or is it urethane?)? might be worth checking the junkyards for a couple used vents to experiment with... my concern is that it would end up looking like... well like you sawed holes into the back of your blisters.

i could also put the money towards a new y-pipe or BOV that i was planning for before the accident. still though, i need to get the cost of fixing some other body issues on the car before I go galavanting around the internet spending money.

while we're here, is there any differences in performance or sound of the old greddy type-s and the new type-rs?

if you're careful, it can look good. not sure what material they are, but i wanna say some kind of metal. measure, trace, measure, cut. oh, and no, don't take a saw to it. once you have your template traced, drill a pilot hole in the middle, then use tin snips to carefully cut along the lines...like we all did back in kindergarten :p :grinyes: .

and save that money for the new y-pipe and BOV. perfomance before aesthetics!

Yeah, for sure... well except for the extra money im gonna be dumping at the shop to get the car de-dented, de-scratched and de-broked. I'm also going to have them fix the yellowing under the front wheel wells and on the sides skirts... I can't wait to see what shes gonna look like when shes all purdy.

I would say leave those vents; theyre just not worth the money, IMO, and 3kvr4 is right, those '99 sail panels would have a better bang for the buck.

I don't really like "ram air" style hoods for Japanese cars. I'd rather go with a vented hood: I wish they made an Invader style one for our cars, like the one I had on my Eclipse. I like the cowl one Kaze has, and if it didn't cost an arm, leg and your first born, or I won the lotto, I'd get it in a heart beat.

AS for BOVs, the RS does hold more boost than the type-S, but you really won't need anything better than the latter unless youre running serious boost, plus the type-s sounds the best.
