Giving modeling another shot, but have a question...

I figured I'll give car modeling another shot. I throughly f****d up a WRX and halfway completed an F40 a while ago. But the point of this thread is a question. I have Tamiya Mini Cooper that I think I'll start up with again, but the A-beam on the driver's side of the model is cracked and broken. Because its broken, the whole body of the car is sort of lop-sided. How do I fix this? With some putty? Or just buy a new one? I think the kit cost me $5 plus whatever shipping was. What do ya say?

I think you should only buy a new Cooper if you are sure you can’t recover it.
Otherwise I think you should try to fix it.

Simple. Just glue it. :)

Well, seriously... Looking at Tamiya online catalogue, A-Pillar seem to be fixable, but it's really depends on how badly it was damaged.

What you can do is to weld broken parts to restore the pillar. Use relatively strong glue, so that can melt plastic. Apply excessive amount, and let it dry for two weeks. Use a small file and sand paper to remove the excess plastic around the welded area to restore its original shape.

Depending on the shape of the window, you might be able to add very thin plastic behind the pillar as a support, but make sure it doesn't interfere with the windshield part, or file and trim it if necessary.

Can you post image of the pillar from several angles?

I can try to post pictures of it, but I'll need time to find a digital camera I can borrow. What kind of glue would you recommend? Also, the whole body's shape is distorted a little. Should I try gluing it with something holding the body the way it should be shaped? I'll hunt around for a camera...

lol, just glue it together using a strong bonding agent and use a tooth pick or something to support it whilst it dries.
