1998 Chev Cavalier 2.2L
My DRL is working fine, but when I turn the "wheel" to turn the headlight on... nothing comes on (DRL) stays on after i turn the wheel.
I pushed the switch toward me to turn the high beam on, it won't click and stay in its place. When I drives at night, I would have to hold the switch toward me to use high beam to use the light to see the road.
Is it obivously the headlight switch since it won't click and stay its place when I want to use high beam or get the headlight on when I turn the wheel??

Yes sounds like a bad headlight switch to me. You may want to replace that and see what happens.

Ok, I will go ahead and replace the headlight switch and see what happens.
Any good places to purchase one at reasonable price?
Thanks!

just your local auto parts store, maybe autozone, o'reillys, pepboys... if possible you could check a junkyard

I am pretty sure I have a bad headlight switch as well. Seems pretty straight forward to replace.
I am a bit nervous about taking off the steering wheel because of the airbags.
Am I safe if I disconnect the battery?? Is there anything special Ineed to do?
Do I have to worry about the airbags accidently deploying?
Thanks.

When I had the headlight switch replaced... i never have to take off the steering wheel. just take off 2 covers that connect together right behind steering wheel.
i did not disconnect the battery and nothing happened. but you can disconnect it just to be safe than sorry.
hope it helps

been there done that. Just remove the top and bottom piece via 3 screws on the bottom of the colum. There should be 2 srcews on the switch itself. unscrew and remove wire harness. replace and enjoy having you lights back. FYI. I had to go through this twice. they worked for a whiloe and then they went out again. Replaced them again and they hace been fine since.

Check your fuses.

buddy it could be a lot of things, but first check fuses, preferably get a multimeter and check for continuity of curcuits of each fuse in the pannel, that way you will have some idea what is not working, change all the bad fuses if there will be any and double check for continuity, if that doesn't help than u either have a short some where or bad contact. In that case seek professional help.

the head light switch is the left lever on the steering wheel right?
Does the whole lever have to be replaced when the switch is bad?
can the lever be taken apart and contacts sanded to get contact back?
