i know its been awhile but i had a good race to speak about..

first im still not turbo, prolonging the boost for better outcomes(350whp)

im on a local hi way doing 65 minding my business when i see projectors come up quickly, a 6 serires, i know i dont have a chance in the world but i was like why not, so i wait untill hes 1 car behing me and i punch it, he flies by me like im standing still, i get into the left lane to play catcher, and i notice some car flying up on my bumper, what do you know a scion tc, dropped with exhasut, so i get into the middle lane, i assumed he was racing the 6series, but he paced me.. so i was like F* it, we go from 60, form 60-100 he was on my rear bumper i wasnt pulling away and he wasnt gaining, around 100 he pulled into the left lane to try and pass he made it up to my door, we were abou 115mph now, we both saw traffic up ahead so started to brake.

so i beat a tc to 115 by 1/2 a car.. not bad for a n/a auto s14..

need some boost badly..

You sure do need boost badly...and I do mean really badly.

I'm glad I joined the boost club. I don't know what I would do without it :grinyes:. I take the 6 series left you guys in the dust pastures, huh? Too bad.

Alteast you got to take on the TC and hold your own fairly well. Good to see you back around these parts again. Been ages since you've been here. Hope you still around for sometime now. Welcome back!

i believe it was 5sp, but i dont know i didnt see in his car...

btw the car is nolonger stock, ive been messing with the safc, leaning it out a bit up top the ka24de is very rich around 5000rpms, im able to hit 68% of my maf, my maf is good for 250whp. im making close to 135-140@wheels...

well thanks for the comments

When it comes to forced induction and the injectors, how do you know which ones to use for your application? Is it just a lot of research or is there some calculation to it? I really can't change them on my truck, so I'm using an FMU for the blower, but I've always been curious of that.

well form my setup, im upgrading the injectors, im getting a rom tune to comensate for the added size, i did some reasearch on rom tunning, what i gather for it is that i need to change the pulse width of the injector to compensate for added flow. the pulse with has to be shortned i believe to keep the injector form staying open the same lenght as the stock injecors. the pulse width can be modifyed according to the load and the maf signal, im working on the rom editor now so im still getting use to it. basically if you have more air comming in you need more fuel to burn, eg. stock 270cc are good for 210whp, im upgrading for 52lb msd (apx 500cc, good for about 450whp saftly) depending on you hp goal you select injectors accordingly.

as for your application you need to caculate the added cfm of the blower and match the injectors to match the added air flow. i have a turbocaculator on my pc that you can mess with for injector sizing, you fill in the feilds on the excell spread sheet according to your veichels spec, and it will tell you the recomend size of injecors for added boost.

i never really lookin into chevy's fmu so i dont know a whole lot about that, i know alot of the chevy guys use the vortech fmu disks and that usuallys supprots the mods. depending if you have a maf yo can probably use a safc, and add or subtract fuel at different rmp points, and add and subtract to you liking..

i dont know if i answered you question.

I've read some ridiculously good articles on the topic of injector sizing. But I still think there is a trial and error element to it as well. Plus some people tune in different ways, depending on their piggybacks. I mean I know some 3S guys that only tune A/Fs, and neglect timing and fuel pressure all together, so it kinda depends on alot.

I could dig up some of those articles if you are interested DeViL

for the weight of your car and it being an auto....once again I think the tc should have beat you....but then again thats me...

Well, that's just you. Anything can happen on the streets. So...he has an auto. Maybe the TC was auto, maybe it was a 5spd. Do we know at all? Nope. Point is, he beat a TC by half a car by 115 mph. I'd say he pulled off the win. No need to be such a skeptic.

Maybe if the race continued the TC could have caught up and beat him in the top end game. Guess we won't know. :)

what im trying to say is if given the fact that the tc is 5speed like he said.....9 out of 10 times a 5speed tc will, can, and should be able to beat a automatic KA......but it is the street so I guess he was that 1% this time....

my car weights about 2753lbs. im pretty sure the tc is about 3300lbs.. the tc makes about 175 best at flywheel, i make 155 at flywheel. yea i know i have a automatic so the loss of power is alot. but what ever. i beat him by 1/2 a car, a win is a win, after i put the turbo on their will be no question which is faster, then its off to bigger cars, 350z, evo's/sti, srt-4 ect..

I couldve sworn the TC are at 160 at the fly. yup just checked, they are 160.

Hows TC 3300lb ? That car looks so small, my gp is 3700lb. My mazda is 2100lb, I would say TC should be a bit closer to the mazda in weight, not GP.

the tC is about 2,900 lbs and makes 160 @ flywheel =)

Ouch, trial and error can be quite dangerous, and expensive. I hope by that you don't mean trying out different sets of injectors, cuz aren't those things like around $1000 bucks a pop? The Air/Fuel ratio plays a major roll in all of this though. From what I understand no matter what your using, turbo or supercharger, you cannot have the A/F ratio over 12.0 or you risk it running too lean and boom. Whether its a big block V8, a compact 4-cylinder, a V6, doesn't seem to make a difference. With getting the bigger injectors, essentially he is adjusting his air/fuel ratio because he's allowing it to spray in more fuel at once to compensate the air from the turbo. Adjusting the spray pattern and doing all that stuff with the rom editing, I dunno that sounds too confusing to me. Turbo2nr do you have experience with doing that kind of stuff? I mean honestly if this is your first time messing with turbos, I wouldn't be doing that on your own especially on the stock pistons and crank. You miscalculate something and you can kiss that motor goodbye. The big thing to worry about of course is running it too lean, but running too rich will screw you up as well. It doesn't hurt anything to run the car rich, but the car will start bogging on you big time, probably throw a check engine light, doesn't really want to get into the next gear. Believe me I've run into that problem trying to adjust my truck plenty of times, I'm using an auto trans. as well.

And yeah I'd like to take a look at those articles if you still have them, could be useful if oneday I decide to switch over to a fuel rail setup.

no i never used rom editor before thats why im trying to learn, im going to probably get a enthaply tuned ecu, or some other form of rom tuned ecu, i want to mess with the program later on down the road but for now ill get it tuned by some on that has done it before. i know a/f are very important, im getting a wideband 02 next, and timing also plays an important role, for every psi they should be a .50 degree of timing pulled back, the ecu will take care of that. i want to run a 11.5 a/f, i always have the safc to add and subtact fuel when needed and the wideband to tell me what the a/f is like, ill fine tune the ecu via safc for now, i plan to get a spare chiped ecu and use that for tuning, and test on that. but everone gotta start some where. if you fear you will blow somehthing you, you'll never learn anything, people learn form trial and error, yes theory is important but trail and error is the best way to learn. hopefully i can montor it enought no to make to much of an error.

i should still have them but they are gared to a nissan ecu. but some of the things they speak of are univeral for all efi systems. just gimmie you email and ill email it to you, its rather long tho, one is 24 pages and the other is 15pgs..

Well thats certainly true, as I've learned a lot about forced induction after cracking two of my pistons and blowing a head gasket, but I was fortunate enough to JUST to do that. Sure its true you'll learn if you break something, but you don't want to make careless mistakes if you don't have to. I mean you could easily damage your block, or if you crack a piston in half you'll really **** up the cylinder walls most likely beyond repair. You do that and your car is going to be down for a very long time. It's good that you are going to someone to tune it who knows what they are doing though. I was kind of worried that you were going to just start messing with that yourself, I've only messed around with the FMU by myself but even that proved to be lethal.

I'm telling you now though if you're planning on running 12 psi like your signature says, those stock cast pistons are not going to hold up. Maybe it will last for a couple years and even a few passes down the drag strip, but they just aren't meant for turbos. I would seriously look into saving up for forged pistons once you get your setup working correctly. Also look into head gaskets as well, right now I'm using Cometic Multi-Layered Steel on mine and from what I've heard these things will handle some serious stress on the engine. Stronger valves wouldn't hurt either.

the internals are gona to stay stock for now, im only going to do do 8psi for daily driving and 14.7 for race, the ecu has two maps tuned for each, and a externl switch to switch betweens maps. ill just keep my eye on my a/f and hope for the best, i dont want a super car just a good daily driver.

thanks for all the help.
