85 Suburban Heater Core URGENT HELP NEEDED

Hi All,
85 Suburban w/AC 454
I am in need of some urgent help. I am out of town and my son has the Suburban. I need a pic of the heater core installation to try and help him change it. It's been a while since I changed one, and trying to explain to a 19 yr old is like :banghead: . He is mechanically capable, but I prefer my truck to end up back together in relatively the same condition.
If anyone has a drawing out of a manual or pictures, they would be greatly appreciated.

What about just having him route the hose back around and take the core out of the loop until you can get there? If that's not going to work then here's a link to an exploded drawing of the portion of the heater core inside the truck: http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/csb/0115.html and a diagram of the portion in the engine compartment http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/csb/0117.html Also have him check out my previous post about changing the core in my 86 http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=623657 Tell him to pull the inner fenderwell as it will save him hours and hours of frustration and allow access to the nuts under the heater/ac shell in the engine compartment. Once you have the case out you have to peel the foam weatherstriping back as there are a couple of nuts holding the inside case together that are hidden under the weatherstripping; they are down several inches inside. Also to split the case and change the core you will need to remove the control arm holding the large black internal air deflector in place (the control rod goes all the way through the deflector and the case body) be cautious or you will break off the ear on the deflector plate and end gluing it back together (like I did). After that it's fairly simple. Keep track of which vacuum line goes where or your controls won't work right after reassembly. Good Luck!

Crap!! I didn't even think about taking the heater out of the loop. That's probably the safest to do. Thanks idmetro!:)

Too much experience with heater cores going bad, having a wife/son who drove a vehicle half way across the country and complained about the poor heat (the core was bypassed) combined with having my own teenage son brought it immediately to mind. Hope your repair goes well. My burb now has the best heat it has ever had in the 5 years I've had it.
