Motor Rebuilds?

I just purchased a 90 civic si with the D16a in it and the motor smokes like a train, we narrowed the problem down to the rings on #4 piston, very low compresion where can i find rebuild kits for this motor i called the local parts house and all they have is stock kits, i was looking a better kit maby diiferant pistons and bore it a little bit. bigger valves and work the head. but now sure if the motor is worth the efforts or money. Not sure if you can get any power out of it or not, not looking for the fastest just quick and dependable. I would love to install a diff motor but in my area can not seem to find anything, it has already ben taking the jusck yards around here are bar i can not even find a good D16 all thats around here is the 1.5 and nobody wants them. so any info would be great.

Well definetly ring it if it smokes, try the net for motors....should be able to find a decent z6/y8 online somewhere cheap.That would be the easiest swap, then you have plenty of choices after that.

You submit what you are looking for and then junk yards send you emails back if they have what you want. Usually a submission takes a few hours on a weekday before you start getting emails back from yards.

it depends on your budgets. there are a handfull of people who will say fix your a6 and anthoer handfull will say swap.

i say, if you have the money, do a swap. soch vtec and zc (dohc non- vtec) both cost about the same and are equally easy to install. both are approx. 130 HP. i personally went with the sohc vtec because it is recommended to rebuild the ZC. but are great swap to do when your a6 needs to go...cheap, easy, and a little HP gain :jump:

if you cant find an engine just have a shop rebuild it for you. Or go the route of having a shop machine your block (which is usually not that expensive) and then just build the lower end of the motor and the head or swap on a SOHC VTEC head. that way you have a nice strong low end.....one of the problems with buying swap engines is you dont know the history but if you have a freshly rebuilt engine you know it will last. Once again, it all depends on how much time/money you want to put into it.

Well time is not a problem and i am able to rebuild the motor myself all i would have to have done would be the machine work. and buy the kit but i can not find performance kits for it all i can find is stock rebuild kits.

my old a6 head was machined and rebuilt by a shop a couple of summer's ago. i do seem to remember them using a "kit" as you call it. i will do my best to try and remember to call on monday and see what they used.
