Power top to manual?

Is it possible to convert a Z3 power top to a manual top?

This is actually quite easy to do. There is an emergency mode that you trigger from behind the carpet lining in the boot (you guys call it the trunk according to the movies). You can disconnect the motor by doing this and you are away in manual mode. The beauty of this is that its all reversable so it maintains your resale value. You should be able to find the procedure in your owners manual or somewhere in the web. I have it in my workshop manual.

I'm interested in why you would like to do this.. I must be missing something. I use the electric top frequently and like it.

In my case, I found that the power top was a little slow. I used to disconnect it when I'd drive for long distances on the freeway. If I had to stop during a heavy rain storm then pulling the roof up with my hand was faster than waiting for it to close automatically.

I'm new to the BMW fold and just wanted to know that I could over-ride the system if there was a malfunction.
