I have a 79zx 2+2.. Now the L28 motor in a 77z has 185hp. I have 135. Why the massive loss with the same engine. I know it can't be turbo.. those weren't out till 81.. Some please I need an anwer.. I need more power.

possible engine rebuild is needed? dunno..there are alot of factors that could cause power loss. You said you had a 79z..i think those only came in 135hp anyway..because i know the stock 1/4 mile was mid 17s..

well im no Nissan expert...
but i think the answer you're looking for is Smog regulations. THey seem to factor what horsepower is put out.
i always use this example, a 70 Malibu with a 350 made 300+ hp a 77 Malibu with a 350 made 170hp. Why? Smog regulations.
Like i said, im no expert on the Z or Nissan products, but thats my guess.

Nah, it ruins the weight balance. 240Z with a RB26, hmm theres another project to start working on.
As I recall, they had a different cam in the later 280Z, which seriously hampered the performance. Possibly lower compression as well.
I think they still used the same head, so a performance rebuild should get you around 200 hp...

Not really, the kit for the small block sets the engine back a bit, being that it is shorter than the straight six. The car will still handle extremely well. I know a few people with the swap, and they all love em.

I guess it would be shorter, what with a pair of 4 cylinder banks instead of a single 6 cylinder bank.
I'd still be more partial to the RB swap, for it higher rpm capabilities.

swap in a Chevy327. You get the big cubes of a V8, but also high RPM capabilities.
Or build a replica Chevy 302, the 302 is lethargic under 4000 rpm, but starts to make its best power at about 7500rpm, like 380 hp. From a stock Chevy 302. Then want even more fun? Throw in an EFI setup, and then a Turbo setup as well, and you'll have a car that is giggles-o-fun! Like possibly 500 hp small block in a car that weighs like what 2500lbs? And its RWD!
Gotta love Chevy.

Ah, the Z28 engine! They're kind of hard to find though... I do aprove of the EFI/Turbo idea, that's what I'm doing with my 400M when I have the money for it. I've been planning to put it into an RX7, but a 240Z is just as good a project...

Yep the Z28 engine. Yeah they're hard to find, thats why i said make a replica. Would be cheaper to build a clone 302 than to aquire an original 302. Ya know? get the specs on everything about the motor and build it up.
When im done with my project(s). I'd like to do somethng of that nature with a 240Z or something. I think that would be bad ass at the track, not 1/4 track but one with turns. Although it should just eat up things in the 1/4!
Or instead of a Z car, maybe Chevy Luv Pickup with V-8 conversion... That would be a cool.

Gotta love the Z's:D Seen a 280z w/ a turbo charged 5.7 LS1 (or LT1....i get them mixed up.....it was the 5.7 in the C5's). That car could lay serious rubber and fishtale from a roll in 3rd gear :silly2:

Actually, I was reading about this...
If you get aluminum cylinder heads, move the battery to the trunk, and do some other things to shift weight around, its almost like stock...
From what I've seen, it seems most people who do the V8 swap are more into straight line performance... like running 12s, and 11s in the quarter.
Then there are the real crazy ones, like that Darius guy who swapped a supercharged Camaro motor in (LT1, or LS1... don't remember) He kept up with an R1 from a dead stop... that was one crazy ass Z car :D
Enough typing for now...

Heh, thats the one... It was supercharged tho... I just watched the vid, and it shows it connected by a belt and all that...
I would pay mad cash if that guy would take me for one balls out ride in his Z :p

Yea, I got the vid off kazaa... I got that one of him doing the 3rd gear burnout on that street, another one where he races the R1, and another one where he has it on the dyno...
On the dyno vid, he had to have a couple guys lay in the back to help it keep traction... :p

I don't know if I could take a 240 through 280Z and put in another engine when there's so many goodies available for the L18 six. (Webers, Webers, Webers, Webers) But, tack an X onto that name and I couldn't care if you turned the thing into a hibachi. In my opinion, the Z lost its way until the 2nd gen 300ZX, and even then it wasn't the Z that was so fondly spoken of in the seventies. It was heavy and expensive, as opposed to the time's greatest performance sports car bargain.
If I were going to do a swap, I'd take the twin-turbo 300ZX engine and put it into a long-nose 260Z with IMSA style fender boxes, side exiting exhaust and a massive intercooler. As soon as it's spooled, goodbye.

A VG30DET swap would be nice too, that would work even better than a SB for weight distribution. Hmm, I have to go measure my old friend's 280Z, and see if it would work for my project...

I suggested it because I'm doing it in 1/25th scale with my Dad using the old Revell BRE Datsun 240Z kit and a Tamiya 300ZX. I know it isn't exactly an accurate statement, but according to the two kits, there's at least three to four inches of clearance under the hood of the 240Z.

I think Cbass is claiming ownership of one of the 650 Enzo Ferrari's that were produced this year. All of which are already presold. Of course, at $670,000.
If you've seen pics of the car, though, you may have doubts about how they could claim that price. It's no Modena and FAAAAAR from being a 250GTO or 365/GTS Daytona Spyder.

No, Enso Carsini is a fine Italian shoemaker actually :D. Actually, most of their shoes are made in India, but the top of the line Carsinis are made in Italy. They're leather lined and padded, and they look really nice. I have two of them, maybe I should change that to "Two black Enzo Carsinis, tan leather interior, dynamic air suspension" :hehe:
I have that in my sig because right now I'm too poor to have anything on the road... :(
