corvette tires

I asked a little while ago about mounting run flats, and now I have another question. Do Corvette tires require special equipment to remount them? They are run flats and the car is a 99' vette... I looked up some information on google and it seemed like it was asking for a lot just to mount up some tires. The machine I would be using is a Coats tire machine, its brand new and looks like it can do the job, but I wanted to see if anyone had some information about the tires. I also heard a rumor that we cannot mount the tires with just a regular tire machine, but it may just be a rumor.

my friends work with run flats, they said they use tyre warmers to soften the tyre slightly before mouting it. and to remove the they freeze part of the tyre with liquid nitrogen then hit it with a hammer.

but when you work in a company that makes race cars it's not too hard to get hold of that stuff...

I won't say you MUST use a "non-regular" machine....but I will say you're playing with fire if you try otherwise.

We do corvette tires at my work now and then. We use a not-so-special, but designed for low profile tires machine. Its still not much fun, but we didn't need to heat up or cool down anything, but definitely were using the attachment cylinder to assist tire removal and installing.

Same with any stiff walled, low profile, large diameter tire, really. Every now and then, we still run into tires that are near impossible to do though. First one that comes to memory is a 300ZX that had really cheasy aftermarket 18" rims with very undersized 30 series tires. We must have spent 2 hours trying to get that tire back on (after patching it) without damaging the bead.

Its really not worth what we're charging IMO.

thanks for the reply, we have the low profile tire machine, but I just wanted to check here first. I can't possibly believe that I couldn't mount these tires. It might take me a little while, but as long as I get it done, without damaging the rim, I'll be very happy

yup, apparently it makes a difference when putting the tyre on.
