Camaro Z28 problems?

I have a chance to buy a 1995 Z28 Convertable and just wanted to know if those cars come with any major problems. It has 200,000 miles on it, its and automatic, its got a racing programmer, flowmasters, and west wings body kit. It looks pretty nice but the interior is beat up, a lot of wear, and the rag top could be replaced as well. A woman I work with owns a 1993 Camaro and she says that her transmission is messed up pretty bad, and she said she has talked with many people who have had the same problems with their Camaros. (Hers is an auto). The price is 2500, it has new tires, brakes, rotors. Thanks.

If it were me i would let this one go.
A 95 with that high of mileage and has been altered tells me that it has been run to hell and back (Hard)
If it doesn't have issues right now with transmission and engine, they are just around the corner. With the interior in rough condition too you are about to step off into some major cash flow to get the car in shape and i forsee major expenses with the drive train in the very near future.

Also with the racing programmer on board - i would especially get serious on checking all of the wiring harnesses out for a hack job and if emissions testing is required you are probably screwed there too because all of those components have likely been altered or removed

Yeah that was my thought, but the thing is, my high school auto shop class does maintanence tests for free for any students. (Yes I am in high school). So I was going to have them do a full check to make sure. I would REALLY like a muscle car though, a lot of my friends have some, I just dont want to pay too much, thanks though.

You have got to be kidding...ANY car with 200K miles should be a big NO. Especially a sports car. I'm surprised the tranny and engine haven't given out yet, they will REALLY soon. Interior can be a pricey project too. Dude, just walk away and find one in better condition.

Come on now, just about any camaro that's well maintained will last as long as a volvo. Only problem with camaros is that people drive them hard. You have no idea how many thirdgen camaros people have taken 300000+ miles on the original engine. Anyways, if you want the fastest car for the cash get one that someones already done some work to. Aftermarket kills resale and raises horsepower, plus you'll save on the parts that it already has on it.

You have to ask yourself, would you buy that volvo with that many miles on it?

Not too many people buy a car with much more over 100K miles on it if they plan on using it a lot. If someone does buy a high-mileage car, its usually for a project, or beater car. But I don't know of too many people who would even buy a beater with 200K miles on the clock.

Well its in my price range, I dont mind buying a car up to 170k, as long as it has been maintained, it could last forever. Im only willing to buy a car up to 5,000 dollars, and I would hope to use it for a few years, at least 5.

For 5K You can find a good Z closer to 100K miles..

I havent, made up my mind. That is why I am on here, I was just stating my opinion about car buying for me. No I will not get the car, thanks for all the help. I looked at it a lot more today and the interior is in really bad shape.

Here is some other food for thought.

How far do you have to travel on a daily basis?
Do you want to take it on road trips?

If you are just driving to school/work and the local store and crap a car with a ton of miles might not be that bad, but don't expect a high milage vehicle to be reliable over long distances.

I bought both my Z's for $5K. The first one was in great shape with 88K miles on it. I could have turned around and sold it for at least $7K. My black one wasn't in such good condition and I kinda regret buying it, but you learn from mistakes. Both were 94 Z's. Keep looking, you'll find something in your range.

I mostly travel just to school and back, 32 miles round trip. But I also sometimes go on camping trips or to the beach. But those are rare, the beach is nearly 200 miles away and camping is usually anywhere from 15 miles to 100 miles, but it is mostly for going to school and back. Thanks for all the help, I am very tempted to buy either a Camaro or Trans Am, mainly for fun, and to beat those "ricers".

hell, i say it would make a great project car....i dont see many lt1 verts out there..thats a cool ride!
