Just started this one, had to REALLY scrounge around to find the Italeri Volvo 760 GLE... managed to find one in England finally. Really neat car, powered by a Ford 302. Had to fabricate the cowl hood myself. Still got some work to do in that regard. Should be fun.

Cool, I'm working on the same car right now. Going a different route, though.
Mine will have the stock engine.

You might want to watch out when glueing the black parts (chassis and such) as the plastic reacts kind of strange (to revell contacta professional, that is).
Try on some scrap pieces first.
Let me know if you need s/th, I might have spare parts for that car.

Edit: for the lights: look at the FIAT 131 rallye car from Italeri (recently reissued by ROG), it has just the right size lenses :-)

My father is a Volvo freak, and i've come to
have a certain liking for them.

I'll be watching!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I don't think my customer would appreciate me ordering an Italeri kit from overseas for him just for the headlights though. I'll just try and mix and match from my parts box :icon16:

I've been meaning to get this kit myself, so will be following the build with much interest! BTW, does the original kit have any underbonnet detail?

Sort of... it has a diecast-esque upper and lower half to the "engine bay." The bottom is one piece, with a molded in "bottom of engine" and the top piece is one piece, with a molded in "top of engine" with other stuff.

look for lenses made by a company called Greif, they made lots of different sizes. i think Hiroboy might sell them.

Ah excellent. I do see that on his page, if I can't find any I'll order those up.

Wow, nice car and nice build. My last boss had a volvo with a race engine in it, dont know what the name of it was but sounds sweet.

Quick shot of the interior, essentially done. Not much to look it, Volvo's are pretty boring. I miss doing 1950s interiors :(

Shot of the engine long block assembled too. Just looking for the right carb and headers now.

it looks to me like it is a carter/edelbrock style AFB carb. shouldn't be to difficult to find. look in your mopar kits, AFB came stock on the '70's mopar cars.

The headlights are off a W123 Mercedes, and do a better job of illuminating than the stocks did, also - they look better in person, the pictures make them look grey.

Body/interior/chassis thrown together, just need to get the wheels fitted and figure out how to get the motor in now. Got 90% of the way done a great looking 302, and then realized it was 1:25 scale and the car was 1:24, it looked tiny as hell... so here's the new motor! And some other pics...

Sweet!

Just a warning,
Hemis and 440s used Holley carbs.

Quick update. Got the wheels and tires on. Decided to go with two sets of front wheels from a Corvette ZR1--honestly the closest wheels I could find in my parts box, as the customer said he didn't want to buy aftermarket wheels. The long block also in place, and I've started detailing the engine bay, since the kit essentially has no engine bay detail...

EDIT: I'm thinking I need to paint the wheels a different colour tho, more of a silver grey...

asside from the crooked headlights, that is looking great. I love the mercedes headlights on the front end of that car, it makes it much less boxy looking. the motor looks right at home in there too!

Why didn't they stick with the EFI?
What's the exhaust system like, routing, mufflers etc.?
Cool swap, great car to duplicate!

headlights don't look crooked to me... I took the picture off-angle though, might be why you're seeing that... one of the smaller driving lamps is just a teeny weeny bit lower, actually...

You'll see the exhaust when I'm done fabricating it out of solder. It's complicated :p

And they don't use EFI because a carburetor costs $50 used, gets only slightly less gas mileage on a V8, and didn't require replacing most of the fuel system.

I was talking about the lenses themselves, the diffuser pattern should be horizontal. the housings are spot on and look great.

Engine bay mostly complete, and the exhaust is done. Apparently that's how it's actually routed in real life--crazy... Bet it's not too loud though, the perfect sleeper! :)

Basically done now, except for that darn grille (see the main forum for a question about the badge...) ... Waxed it up, finished detailing the engine bay, side skirts and spoiler are on, and the custom licence plate.
