You guys know wats so funny...well, my wife got me all pissed off a week ago so i went on a little shoping trip and went to checkers auto parts just for the hell of it...i was then chatting with a guy who worked there and he owned a Focus SVT...he was tellin me the biggest shiet that i would like to share with you guys...he told me that the new focus's are so strong that you can shoot 300 shots of NOS in them without internal mods...and then he said he called SVT and they told him that even tho the stock tach redlines at 7000 or watever, he says they told him the true redline is actually at 11000 because the "average" person wouldn't care a less...well, gosh, the more i hear about the focus, the more i hate it...and here's one more for u guys...

Or perhaps he thought other forum members held this same view and wanted to help and disillusion them.
Or maybe he wanted the others users input like "yeah i heard the same thing" or "that's just a rumour" or (not likely) "it's true, here's a link"
Though he didn't directly post a question, the motivation to post means he wanted discussion of some level to take part on the subject he presented. Otherwise what would be the point of posting it?

Doc, you're fishing in the wrong waters if you're looking for anti-Focus people. Most of the import guys I hang around with actually like the Focus because of its thoughtfully designed suspension and reasonable price. Not to mention Carlos Sainz is one sick driver. I'm hoping that we get some Cosworth parts available for the Focus over here, posthaste.

cosworth foci kick ass
and true, most import owners dont dislike the focus. A few mods can turn that car into a mean little hatch. it took me a while to get over the styling, but it grew on me quite a bit

No, I would call it an unreasonable and bitter jab at a seemingly easy target. I guess he needed to feel big. (please dont associate him with all 240sx owners .:biggrin2: )
Then again, I do admire foci. The SVT engine is actually quite a marvel, though withstanding a 300 shot in stock form is a bit of an exaggeration

Ok, that BS that guys was talkin' is damn funny. Now, I personally wouldn't drive a Focus, but I don't really have a huge problem with them either. I also heard there's a kit you can buy so that you can drop a small block 350 into a Focus. That would be a fun project.

well when my dad wrecked his car, they gave him a focus as a rent-a-car
and of course i wanted to drive it, (it wasnt SVT)
i thought it sucked, but thats my opinion

If you ask me, a hatch focus is about as good-looking as an aztec. Oh yeah, and the ZETEC engine is wussy too.

the same Zetec engine in the RS will kick your (and my) cars asses :p
Then again its past svt specs with a turbo straped on.
I perfer the looks of the non hatch, but I do like them more and more. I'd love to have the RS, thats for damn sure.

Has anyone actually driven one? i mean sure the base model is slow as hell, but it's got the nicest steering wheel ever! It's the perfect size and it's got the greatest feedback ever. You decide to turn, and thats it. There's no lag nothing and it's very responsive.

The svt focus is a pretty nice little car. The base models are not meant to be fast, just transportation. For around 17k you get the svt with 170hp@7000rpm and 145lb tq@5500rpm. Most of that torque is made by2000rpm, great bottom end. Not to mention a 6-speed trans and a great suspension. And in reference to the first post, the svt focus redlines at 7250rpm.

It's Ford's base economy car, so it doesn't have much power. It does have an excellent multilink suspension setup, and handles as well as a C5 Corvette for the most part. Well, the C5 has better road holding, but thats about it.
BTW, the new Cosworth Focus is quite nice looking. It's gone to more traditional headlights and front end.

Yes, give us Cosworth parts now! I have all the respect in the world for the boys at SVT but after having seen an RS200 up close and making laps, there is just no comparison.
And Cbass, that does look awfully Mondeo-ish. Just too long of a wheel base to be a Focus...

Saying the focus handles almost as good as a c5 is a pretty bold statement, a corvettes high speed handling is phenomenal.
Cbass
09-11-2002, 06:17 PM
Well, yeah, at high speed the C5 has the advantage of being RWD. At lower speeds though, they post the same slalom times, and on a tight race course, they are pretty matched as far as cornering speed goes. Of course, the C5 blows it's doors off at every straightaway.
The Focus doesn't quite brake as well, but the C5 has amazing brakes.
For a daily driver, they make great cars, as long as you don't care about going too fast. They have such good handling stock, I wonder what you could do with some stiffer springs and better sway bars...

That's a UK-spec Ford Mondeo with a 2000/2001 registration plate on it. The model is an early pic of the range-topping ST220.

While I don't care for the looks of the Focus too much I don't have a problem with them. What I have a problem with are people like the guy you talked to at checker that shouldn't be working at a auto parts store if he will believe that BS, the same can be said of anyone like him, regardless of the car.

I don't like the Focus body style much. The coupes are ok, but I just straight don't like the Hatch. Their handling is good, but I hate the acceleration. Around here theres some RICED OUT Foci. I actually like a few of the engines and parts I've seen people put in a few foci that I've seen but in my opinion, the cosmetic parts that people put on just look ugly. Aside from stuff like smoked lights. But Altezzas on a hatch Focus are straight raunchy. But that's only my opinion.

i hated them, to tell you the truth i despized them... however. we went to ford anyway... just to satisfy my curiosity. we drove the SVT... LOVED it... it was pretty quick, only keeping the competitors in mind, not comparing it to a dam CORVETTE... what's next, pinto Vs diablo? anyway then we got the quoter... 15,090, i want one.. end of story, and then hopefully some company will come out with a turbo that doean't void warranty, and i'll want one even more, remember this is a former hater saying this... My R&T issue said it was a Focus... maybe it was an error, I'll see if I can find the issue.
You'd be very surprised at how well a stock Focus hatch handles. They post a 64 mph slalom time, and stop from 60mph in less than 130 feet.
This compares to the Corvettes slower 63mph slalom. A high speed slalom is an excellent test of a cars transitioning characteristics, and the Focus shows very well. Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have a RWD V8 Corvette over a FWD 4 cylinder Focus, but with economy cars, you should apreciate good atributes where you can find them.
On a side note, the C5 uses a front engine/rear transmission layout first seen in Ferraris of the 60s, and later in the Porsche 924!

Did anyone see the Road and Track on the Focus with the 5.0 in it? It was on the Speed Channel maybe a month ago. It was a trip! It shows this little red focus going around a corner sounding like a frikn' cobra! The only difference on the outside of the car was the dual exhaust. Look it up if you get a chance.
