Lost the alternator on my way home the other day. I figured 'ok, no problem, I'll get home on the battery and replace the alternator tomorrow morning' (it was a friday night). while driving home on the battery the abs system suddenly kicked on for no reason (I wasn't even braking) and vibrated my pedal until I slowed down and pulled over. I shut the car down to let the abs reset itself, and then started it again. The system didn't do its usual self test when I started moving again, and then the abs light came on. I didn't think much of it, maybe that the computer was conserving battery power by shutting down the abs system or something.
So, I replaced the alternator, and the battery was obviously disconnected for a while (45 minutes give or take). now the car runs fine, but I've got no abs. I start the car up, the system fails to do its self test, and then the abs light comes on. every time I drive it. so, do I have a bad relay, a bad pump, or what? it's not like abs is vital or anything (I actually dislike it during the winter), but my inspection comes due at the end of the month and I don't want to tear my dash apart to get at the wire for my abs light so I can pass inspection (no dummy lights allowed to be on in maine).
I'd appreciate any input you guys can offer.
