Cummins. Heh I dunno...
I broke a 318 before. But, I'm sure a lot of 318s will still be running around long after those new hemis and 360s have been wore out and junked. Wait and see.
5.2 gets my vote.

only reason to buy a dodge is the cummins...flat head six...
I get 23mpg highway and expect to get 1,000,000 miles on the engine...
everything else is questionable

I dont think you mean "flat head" six as the Cummins has overhead valves, lots of low rpm torque. And yes you are right about possible 1,000,000 mi. I have a 92 with 400k mi. and a 94 with 200k mi. and are just broke in.....

for all out being reliable the 318 is a work horse , but for hammering down of coarse the 360 . but the real engine that should be in the ram is a 340 or 383 , or 426 hemi . and not the homo new hemi the old big block 426 max wedge .

All the Mopars historically have been good pieces...not real good fuel milage but reliable pieces just the same.

I'd also like to vote for the 5.2. I recently bought an 88 RamCharger with a 318 and it runs damn near perfectly. The guy that had it before me owned it for four years and only used it to plow...he never ONCE changed the oil. I've never seen such black oil or held such a heavy oil filter. That just proves how well that they can hold tight! :D
