Fix somthing, break somthing else...

First off let me tell you what my car is, its a 99' honda passport ex w/ a custom auto start (via remote). Its a DEI remote, I bought the car used.

When I got the car its gas guage wasn't working so I find these forums and find out it is a bad fuel sending unit. So I purchase the fuel sending unit on ebay, from the person that this forum recommends.

I get it put in and gas guage works. However now im expereincing very long crank overs and never had this problem before. If the car sits just for a small period 5 minutes etc. The car won't start it just cranks and cranks. If I try again it will start eventually. Once I get it started if I turn it off, it will start back up with no problem. But if I let it sit the same situation happens.


:screwy: Now here is the ODD part... It starts PERFECTLY fine with my auto-start in any situation weather its sat all night or just for a few minutes.

All my mehcanic messed with he says was dropping the fuel tank, and the fuel pump. And replaced the fuel sending unit with the new one.

Any ideas?

Could my fuel pump have gone bad by messing with it? If so why does auto-start work fine?

Could he have messed with somthing to do with the auto-start add-on and changed somthing? That envolves the key-start? Such as the battery?

Try this. Turn the key to the on position. count to 5 and then try to start it.

Your issue may be a bad fuel pressor regulator (see the FAQ's).

when the fuel pump was removed the plastic flex hose was cut on the sharp edge of the fuel tank and is allowing fuel pressure to leak down when key is off buy youself a new pump or if you paid a shop to install this sender for you have them pull the pump tell them you want to see it look for a small hole on the flex hose if ther is one I would try to get them to replace it if someone did this job as a favor let me know I may be able to dig up a used flex hose no I wont charge you for it you just pay for shipping

Sooo basically new fuel pump.. oh well.

Just another example on why not to fix it if it an't really broken. Like I was dealing with a bad fuel gauge for 11 months hehe.

Got back again from the mechcanic. Turns out my fuel filter was clogged indefinatly. He says he couldn't even get air to come out of it. And after the car sat for 5-10minutes. IT started fine... so I guess ill have to see..

Well its starting BETTER, but the problem is still there.

The fuel filter is recommened every 30k.

I still need a new fuel pump regardless of what broke when it was messed with. A new fuel pump will fix it lol.
