What does your existing key look like? If it has no micro implants I"d say it
's a regular key. Get on the phone and call around to some locksmiths and see if you're being scammed. Call the parts guy at the dealership. He could tell you if you've got a special security key. Even at that. WTF. Is it made out of gold?

dealerships parts dept sent me to service. two different sevice depts. said it needed security key. one lock smith said it,ll cost $88. plus tax for one key. consumer guide said the 1999 ford escort "LX" did not have security system . only the "SE" model. home depot cut a new key. car started ok but key didn,t easily insert. different locksmith cut a key for $2. that works perfect. in summary, yes a escort security key is priced like gold. but "LX" model ain,t !

Yeah! Glad to hear you got a key made. Locksmiths have to eat, too, but $88 for a key. I don't know about that. That there, can't be right.
