Please help!!!!!!

i have been all over the internet trying to find out what is wrong with my 96 sohc neon. It all started 2 weeks ago when my battery died. At the time we thought it was the alternator, so we put a used one in. Come to find out it was the battery that was bad. Then the alternator went too, we have put 2 new alternators in it, and both smoked and whinned causeing the batt light to pop back on again, and of course burnt out both alternators. The first day the batt light came on I also lost my horn, everything under the hood seems fine though, I cant find any bad or grounded wires. I tried to start it again the other day but only heard a clicking sound, so I dissconected then reconected the wire from the positive terminal to the starter and tried it again and it started! I have no idea what is happening with this car, has this happened to anyone else? Please, any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated!

something is shorting out electrical diagonosis is hard to do over the internet but i would check all wiring from alternator to battery and fusable links clean all grounds. clean grounds on the starter even that wire that goes from solinoid to starter motor check to make sure that all the wires are being correctly connected at the alt

I bought a continunity tester today and tested the alt ground and fuseable link, also the cable from postive terminal to starter and starter ground, all tested good. i am now offically lost :banghead: i have no idea what to check next. I did notice today that the alternator gets really hot after running for only a few minutes, and still smokes like a trooper! Any more ideas on anything else i can check would be awesome!
