Brake Lights stuck on...

I'm trying to help out a friend that has a 1995 Sentra that the brake lights are stuck on. Even after turning off the car, the lights stay on.

I've only talked to her over the phone so far, so I have not been able to see the problem first hand.

She has tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it and that worked until she turned the car back on and then they stuck on again. All the lights (signal lamps, brake lights, reverse, headlights) are functional and from what she said her brake fluid level was good. She also said that she doesn't notice any difference in braking. Could it be a sensor or a short somewhere? Any ideas would great!

Thanks,
Brick

i'm guessing here, but could it be a relay?

sounds like a short to me. brake lights dont have relays.

i didn't think they did. but if it was a short then i don't think disconnecting the battery would do anything. but then again if it was a relay it wouldn't do anything either. i'm just stupid. i can't even explain my thinking on that one.

Thanks, a short is the only thing that makes sense to me. It could be a short that is created only after the car is started and that would explain why disconnecting the battery will stop it.

Thanks Again,
Brick

Have her check on the floor underneath the brake pedal....have her look for a small piece of broken rubber/plastic. It could be a bumper for her switch on the pedal........although as old as this post is she probably already knows that.
