I tried hooking up my aftermarket pioneer HU to my 96 corsica...and it wont work..i got the right harness and a guy said to get a piece of speaker wire and intertwine it with the black wire and put it in a metal peice unpainted..I did this and still nothing

Are you positive it is a working HU? And did your corsica have a radio installed before you did the swap?

Are your connections done with electrical tape or did you actually krimp them together?

O wait you said you used harnesses so they just hooked up male adapter to female?

I'm no expert i'm just asking you questions i would generally check if it was my radio..

one of the wires in your "harness" is obviously connected incorrectly or has come lose

^ i agree....

if your factory radio is working when u match up the wires then maybe you're just matching up the wires wrong for the aftermarket ones.

no their a taped together with electrical tape..

i'm guessing that's the problem right there. solder and crimp for best connection.

solder and crimp? you can't do both, can you? i prefer solder and heat shrink tubing.

solder the tips of wire so the copper doesnt fray, then crimp. heatshrink works great, too. (looks cleaner, as well)

maybe I have weak hands, but I have the hardest time getting those butt-end crimps to hold BOTH wires - seems one side always wants to comes loose.

a good crimp tool helps, but the cheap ones work, too, with enough effort. I've used the butt crimps and at first they just didnt want to hold, but i used more effort (til it hurt, lol) and theyve held strong since.

we have the like $100 crimpers at work (about a dozen different ones), and I still seem to have a hard time with them.
