I've owned my 95' Jetta for two Years now and its been a great car. Last week i was driving down the highway and the car just died, seemed to lose all power and stall. When i pulled off to the side of the road the car would not start. When i turn the ignition key the car tries to start but will not turn over. There is a smell of gasoline like its flooding. I dont know anything about cars so any help would have to be in detail explaining where the part is that i have to check.
Any help with this problem is apprecaited.

Check your fuel pressure. Look for leaks to see if it's the cause of the smell. If pressure is low, have fuel volume checked to see if the pump is bad. Check the ignition system to see if you have proper spark, maybe the gas smell is caused by the fuel not burning. Check spark plugs for unburnt gas (no ignition) or other deposits.
