Coolant problems!!

Hi, I have a 98' honda civic and it has been overheating. I replaced the thermostat a couple of months ago and my car was fine for about2 months. Then I replaced it again and again it was ok for like 2 months. I took my car to jiffy lube to see if they knew what was wrong with my car, and they said everything was running fine and that i had no leaks in my cooling system. But every time after i take a long trip (3hours) the coolant is low and if i dont refill it, it overheats. So i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what it might be that is causing my car to do this!? And also I was wondering if a radiator flush could solve the problem, if i have sludge build up. Because after my trips the coolant isnt the bright green color anymore...its kind of brownish green. Thanks for any help that u can give!

Coolant shouldn't be a brownish anything, so a cooling system flush is a good idea. If there are no visible leaks in the cooling system where coolant is escaping, then it might be signs of a blown head gasket, which is never a good thing.

How much does it cost to fix that? And are there any tests that they can do to see if it is blown?

Try getting your cooling system pressure tested, that should determine whether the coolant is leaking outside of the engine, or if the leak is throught the head gasket. Also, a blown HG will create some water bubbles in the oil, so check that too.

Any good repair shop should have one and can test it for you.
But AS SAID CHECK FOR LEAKS AND OTHER STUFF FIRST.
If you are adding green coolant to another kind of coolant will also give you problems?

The cost to replace a head gasket is several hundred dollars or more depending on where you bring it. Also, I agree with the above advise on how to test for this condition. GL
