I was trying to figure out what plane is in this picture:

I sort of recognized the plane a little bit from the front nose and cockpit. I knew I had seen it online somewhere before. Anywho, in case anyone is curious, the plane is called the "Avro Vulcan". It was a bomber used by the Royal Air Force back in the cold war days. More info can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Vulcan

were any of the cars tested in South Africa. the yellow AGW655T, looks like a Garage plate(testing plate) and the plate on the trailer is a regular plate from that time. Our plates were exactly like this at that time.

Not South Africa, but certainly Africa.

BMW took XP1 to Namibia for hot weather testing in the desert. Unfortunately that's where the car was accidentally destroyed at the hands of the guy wearing shorts in photo #15.

Ah i see. The cars papers must have gone through SA, as the T at the end of the plate stood for what was then "Transvaal". Although Namibia is a country in its own right, they share many things with South Africa.

I have not yet confirmed that Namibian plates do not look like the ones on the car or trailer. The Trailers Plate is a valid SA plate but matches details for a Nissan Skyline, last registered in 1989. So quite possibly the plates are not SA plates. Just not sure where they come from.

The plate on the car does not match any particular car as these are used for Garage testing purposes only, thus that plate may have been used on several hundred cars.

I'd call it #055 because chassis #074 wears the "RLONE" plate.

Should be the same - all those pictures were taken by Ron Kimball. Not sure on the chassis number. There are certainly a lot of possibilities when it comes to silver F1s of course.

I did use your scans. I haven't looked at the other scan, but the gap in the full frontal view was not that bad. Those are very good scans that don't have a lot of clutter in them. I ran a noise removal tool first and then joined them I also took out the reflection running down the middle of the car. Thanks for the scans.:smile:
