downshifting too late?

I'm not sure how to describe my problem. But i have an automatic, 4cyl, 93 cavy. Lately, i've noticed that when i brake, it takes longer to come to a stop, and the transmission stays in gear. It seems to be downshifting too late. As i get slower, i can feel the car jerk a bit as the transmission shifts into a lower gear. Then again before I come to a complete stop. It never did this before. I'm wondering what would cause this, and is it just time for an oil change?

I'm not sure if this is related to another problem I have. Every now and then the car tends to want to stall out when at a stop, the rpms drop, and then come back up. One time the rpms came up so high, i didnt have to step on the gas to drive. It isnt the TCC solenoid because I replaced at the beginning of summer.

check your throttle pressure cable, also known as a kickdown cable, make sure it looks good, and it is perfect condition, its the cable that goes from your accelerator, to your transmission, sometimes it goes up to your throttle body, then back down to the transmission, it varies from car to car,

yes, it goes up to the throttle body. I checked it, even unhooked it, and its in great condition.

okay so today the problem is even worse. anymore suggestions? I really need this fixed since winter is around the corner. If the transmission oil was too high, would this happen?

did you change or flush the tranny fluid lately? i know when i got my tranny flushed the mechanic didnt put enough fluid in.. and it acted very weird.. shifting hard and sometimes not down shifting. especially on hills..

yes, having an improper amount of tranny fluid, weather its too high, or too low, can cause problems, im not saying it will cause the exact problem you're having, but its definetely something to look at...

alright thanks alot for the reply. i put this transmission in last summer with new oil. next week i'll do another change. Its hard to tell the level because it gets smeared up the stick. But at times it does look like it is over the line.

Also, ive been having engine problems. It would sometimes drop in rpm's, but not completely stall. And one time, the rpm's in idle were very high, and while i was driving home, the transmission couldnt downshift properly because of the high rpms. So I hope this didnt cause much damage
