drilling when installing Warn bumper?

I want to buy a warn front andrear bumper for my 2004 rubicon...the direction for the front bumper say no drilling, the directions for the rear bumper say that some TJ owners may have to drill some holes...anyone know if my jeep is gonna need to have holes drilled in it?

Im not familiar with the Warn specifically but most aftermarket bumpers mount to the Wrangler crossmember. The YJs had four bolt holes on each side where the factory bumperettes mounted. They did away with the bumperettes when the TJ came along. They also did away with two of the bolt holes on each corner. The Aftermarket bumper companies make one bumper that fits both the YJ and TJ and they use all eight mounting points on the crossmember. So, you will have to drill a total of 4 holes in your rear crossmember. Warn my also have supports that bolt to the frame rails. I cant say for sure if you will need to drill for these. If you are going to use the bumper for towing or recovery, it needs to be tied into the frame anyway because the rear crossmember just isnt thick enough to put any stress on.

I just installed my bumper this last weekend and I had to drill four holes because the OEM bumper only has foour bolts total holding it to the body. My aftermarket bumper has eight holes for mounting. If you drill correctly the bumper will have better support and ridgity. You will like the results.
