so the other day i was browsing the forums and saw a deal i couldnt refuse. a cracked, fucked up aero bumper for 10 bucks!

picked it up today and heres what it looks like.

so what do you guys think? how much am i looking at to reattach the part that was cracked off and get the rest straightened? theres also a small part that cracked off and i dont have it so i guess il use my old bumper as a doner? the side that isnt fucked up is in perfect condition. ive never seen one of these for sale in NZ and even if i did, it would be close to $500. this is a plastic bumper (not fiberglass) so i assume it wont be TOO expensive to fix.

actually fiberglass is easier to fix...however plastic is still fixable, but still a pain in the arse. good luck with it, i know im not much help, but that bumper looks pretty rough.

thanks. im not going to even think about fixing it myself, i just hope it wont be too expensive. on second thought, how would they fix something like this? its pretty much a matter of reattaching the broken part, straightening it out, and making it look flush. remember that the side which isnt fucked up is really nice lol.

as long as you have all the peices... a lot of kitty hair will fix it. then body filler to smooth it out

theres one small piece missing on the side, but i guess they can just cut up my stock bumper and use some of that.

lol im sorry to say, but that will almost cost as much if not more than a new one. You'll mostly be paying for labor. Here its about 65+ an hour....then you have materials and repaint etc. Thats if the place even decides to take that as a job lol. I guess it depends on how well you want them to fix it and what the rest of the bumper looks like. Id use it as a wall decoration. Those bumpers are usually about 5-600 dollars.

i wont need it to be repainted, so that doesnt matter. as i said the rest of the bumper is fine, and as long as it looks good, i really dont care how they fix it. lol this was probably a bad idea

you must know somebody who does body work. but even then, as mentioned above, its gonna cost you a pretty penny to have that bumper fixed. give it a shot though. it'll never hurt. who knows, you might come back on here tomorrow saying a buddy is fixing it for $100..

MetalHeadZaid

nope, none of my friends do body work. how about me fixing it myself? i mean, i could use this as an opportunity to learn something (kinda like with the diff). do they just heat the bent parts up and bend them into shape? what do they use to heat them and what could i use? and as for the part that's cracked off, i just use "kitty hair"? if anybody has any guides or tutorials on body work, now would be the time lol.

edit - had another look at the bumper, most of the cracks dont look like they would be TOO hard to fix myself, but the fucked up side is kinda twisted, i think i may get that part done by the pros, and do all the easy cracks myself. or am i already going over the top?

Five minutes with a clay bar and some good wax and it will look good as new.

kitty hair is fiberglass sheets... then you mix up some hardcore resin to soak the kitty hair with.. lay the kitty hair on the back of the cracked bumper after dunked in resin and its like hard as a rock... some good shit

hahaha i wish it was that easy to do body work..

talk with hoosierdrifter because it sounds like he's done body work before. you can defintiely do this yourself, its just that it would be an easy job to screw up. if i were you, i'd try to have parts of the bumper fixed against a stand. that way, once you DO mold pieces back together, it'll stay the way you've molded it.

good luck

yea man... just peice it together with duct tape or somthin on the outside. then lay the soaked fiberglass sheets on the back of the bumper, connecting the broken peices. once thats all dry and hard as a rock flip the bumper back over to the front and start sanding down on the high spots. then use body filler "bondo" to fill in the cracks and low spots. sounds easy, but its tedious work.. but like you said, it would be a great learning experience. i had a streetscene bumper cover on my 95 s10 blazer, which was shattered after a mail box jumped out in front of me in sub-zero degree temperatures.. after a day or two of kitty hair work and body filler... she was better than new.

shouldnt be too hard, i fix cracked bumpers all the time, and some as bad as yours.... a heat gun and a flat head screwdriver to melt the two back together and some putty to smooth it out.

If you can fix so that it fits fine, but still sort of rough around the edges we can sent it to our factory and make a mold and pop out a new one..

With enough patience you can fix that. The question is how long can you wait for it lol. Fiberglassing isnt hard its just very time consuming and tedious. I say try to do it yourself because most shops will kill you on that I think.

It would cost like $50 to fix that yourself. What material is it? If its Polypropylene then youll need to sand it with some rough paper to make the glass stick. Put tape on the front of it to hold it in the correct postion, then lay some glass on the back of it.once it dries sand the front and apply filler to the cracks. Then sand it down , prime it, sand with 800 grit then get it painted.
