Just got my 1st Honda

Hello all

I just picked up my 1st Honda Car that is iI have had Honda bikes for years now. so i hope the car is just as good.

Here is my ??? I just purchased a 90 Honda Civic SI with the d16a, And on #4 cylnder the rings are shot and its smoking bad. what is my best option to fix it. looking for a fun toy this will not be my main car I have a silverado that i drive daily i got the car cheep so I don't mind spending some money on it, but i do not really care if it is the fastest in town just nice smooth and no smoke:D The car just got back into the states for the 3rd time now and on its last trip it had trasmission installed that had higher gears in it so that it would keep up in Germany. what trasmision would this be. Also he had a Alternator put on that is higher amps and it makes the battery light come on?

Silverado's, gotta love em. I was driving around one time in my dads 98 1500 extended cab 2wd and I saw this integra that is hella modded so I revved on him and fuckin kicked his ass!! he was like, what you got? and i was like, its stock!

hey, dont worry about the battery light, mine does the same thing, i had to put a higher amp alternator in my car so that i could power 3 batterys for my stereo system and my battery light is on all the time, it is because it makes the voltage of the batterys like 00.1 volts higher than it should be causing it to light up thinking something is wrong...or so im told...i dont know...all i know is that it has worked for 2 years almost now without a problem, as for the tranny i have no clue...unless you have the dx model and they put in an si tranny

nevermind, you said you had an si....lol, i dont know then....

If the tranny is high geared, (for ex. 2nd gear 65, 3rd 80, and so on) the tranny is a HF. I had one it would lose so much speed on hills (i should say small bumps in the road) in 5th gear I only used 5th like twice the six months I had the thing.

If you remove the gauge cluster you can take out the light bulb for the battery check ;)

If you saying that a High geared tranny, 2nd tops at 65, and 3rd tops at 80. My stock DX tranny can do that. Hits those speeds at about 6k rpms. My 4th tops at 110, don't know what 5th tops at, haven't had a chance to try it out yet, too afraid to get stopped for going that fast again.

sorry to hear about your ring :( but it's a great excuse to swap ;)

d16z6 92-95 Si/EX or d16y8 96-00 EX, they are both SOHC vtec and approx 130hp. since you have a Si it drops right in (no mods). engine $500, p28 ECU $150, wiring harness $150, and your tranny works really good with it.

b16 dohc vtec, approx 160 hp. the engine and parts (axels, motor mounts, shift linkage, tranny, ecu, and some other stuff) is anywhere from $1600-2000+. this swap requires some mods.

there is also the ZC. it is DOHC but non-vtec. it costs approx the same as the SOHC vtec and drops in just as easy. they do recommend you rebuild them before you swap it (most have been sitting for awhile and seals go bad)

Hey ricehater, get outta here, if you are going to bash on hondas, go do it in a domestic forum, where someone might think it is a little funny. This is definately not the place for it. Oh, by the way, I have seen a civic with a $600 junk-yard turbo system beat up a z28 pretty good (I think a z28 might be a little faster than your cherokee:rolleyes:), so next time at least try to say something intelligent.

1) if you are paying $3000 to turbo a civic, you are being raped
2) ford makes their heads from styrafoam molds. cheap product at it's finest. it is well known they crack heads as early as 50,000 :bloated:
3) how can Acura be constructed any better than Honda when it's the same company. you can't mistake quality for levels of features offered....For crying out loud, it is stamped "Honda Co." with the "H" logo on my INTEGRA valve cover :licker:
