1990 honda accord

I HAVE A 90 ACCORD LX AND THE AUTO TRANSMISSIONS SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE STIFF WHEN PUTTING IN TO GEAR AND ALSO AS I ACCERATE THOUGHT HE GEARS IT DROPING IN A LITTLE ROUGH SEEMS IT WOULD BE SMOOTHER ALSO DOES ANY ONE HAVE A GUILD ON THE SHITFTING DIRECTIONS AND THE TRANS LOCK

From what I have heard, the older Automatic Accords do shift hard. I have a 1990 LX 5-Speed so I have never had that problem, but I do know someone with a 91 Accord LX Auto, and his does the same thing.

ive got the same problem, and from what i know theres nothing you can do with your existing tranny. it works smoothly sometimes more than others, but the worst is always when im backing up and i got from reverse to drive.

Yeah I agree theese models are bad about going into gear hard and shifting hard..... But from what I have heard is a hard shifting auto is a strong auto!!! :)

You may want to check around on-line. One guy I know said that there is something that you could put in with your Tans. Fluid and it would help out the hard shift a little, but I forget what it was!

I have the same exact car as u do and even with almost new tranny put in about 3-4 years ago i still have a hard shift. i guess its just the way the car was made. I dun mind it at all unless u like luxury cars which has absolutely no jerks.

is that bs or for real?? i wouldnt know if you were shittin me or not, thats why im asking.
and about that trans fluid, from what ive heard any kind of additive isnt good, and might actually hurt.

and i do plan on doing a manual conversion, but not for a couple years. i got debt to pay off. but when thats done i wanna get swapped and of course a manual conv. unless honda wises up and changes the look of the new accords by then. cause no way in hell im gonna get one lookin how the 03's do.

From hear-say only my understanding is that if a tranny shifts slow or lags into gear, its weak, everything isn't working properly sometimes you can change the fluid more often and get better shifting out of it... if a tranny shifts hard and clunks into gear its bad for it because it is putting more stress on the teeth of the gears.... but a tranny that shifts hard but smooth ( no clunking ) you have a strong transmission.... i personnaly like the hard shifting I change my fluid about twice a year to keep it shifting hard!!!
about the additives I dunno... I wouldn't put some .99 for any and expect anything good out of it.... but I think its personal preferance.... I did put a slick 50 tranny treatment in mine the first time I changed it but from now on instead I use synthetic fluid it has so much more protection!!! I useually bark second after changing tranny fluid believe it or not!!! :silly2: but any way I would probly stay away from doing to many diff types of additives find one that is a reputible company and try it if you don't like it drain it and do it again!!! :)

You are saying that, it is hard shifting the shifter from park into drive!! If this is the case, that would be your shifter cable. If the car shifts hard into gears while moving. It could be your tranny mounts or motor mounts. I hope this help.....

My 90 LX has shifting problems. Often revs up when changing gears. Doesn't downshift when coasting properly. When going from rev to drive it will not switch and slam into drive hard, if your not prepared. You can help it shift into next gear by letting off the gas.

Checked sensor codes, this is bad MAP or mass air pressure sensor, which is closely tied to the vehicle knowing when to shift. 250 dollar or so part. :( Heard it was common problem.
