I'm curious to see who here in this forum thinks they have the highest mileage Geo Metro. I'd like to see how far these little suckers can go if well maintained.

As a potential Metro owner, I am curious too. Also anyone have trouble getting parts for the 3 cylinder engines?

I'm sure mine isn't the highest mileage one on this forum but I'll get you started. 86 Chevy Sprint (precursor to the metro) went 198,500 miles with lackadasical maintenance before #3 exhaust valve checked out. Replaced motor with a JDM and have covered another 18k miles since for current total of 216,500+ miles. Attempting to reform my ways and do a better job of keeping up on the maintenance.

Mine has just hit 217,00 and still runs great. It has been well maintained with frequent oil/filter changes.

Uses less than a quart of oil in 3000 miles and

I have had few problems with this car. Two timing belts, two batteries, two water pumps, tires and brakes. Still have the original clutch and it does fine here in the Tennessee mountain roads and hills.

I am the original owner.

We have a 95 4 cyl auto that has 237,000 miles.
We bought it with 109,000 and have been using it as a newspaper delivery car. My wife drives 110 miles a day with 700 stops. I change the front brakes about every 6 weeks and the oil every 3000 miles. It uses less then a quart of oil in that 3000 miles.
The only problem I have with the car is the windows. I wish there was a way to make them go up smooth without so much force.

You can go to car survey.com and quite a few have posted mileage over 200K some even over 300K on Metros

I have a 96 Metro 4 cyl auto with 171k and still going strong. i have put 10,000 on it since I have had it, replaced absolutely nothing yet, have had no problems with it at all. changed oil 3 times so far and it uses about half a quart every 3,000 miles. I know someone with a 95 metro 4 cyl. auto that has close to 400k on it, no joke.

my 91 3cyl manual has 326k. the head gasket finally gave up but #3 cyl had deteriorating compression for many tens of thousands of miles. used just the smallest amount of oil between changes always. i tow a small trailer with it sometimes. i'm doing a complete rebuild now.

looking back, i've never sold a car with less than 400k on it ..... i still have the '81 toyota 3 axle rv [r22 engine .... occasionally pulled a 19' alum bayrunner with it] which is trouble free at 450k and the 65 dodge pickup when sold still had the original slant 6 with nothing done to it internally ever! lot's of wonderful traveling and hauling overall ...... from alaska to mexico.

My 1991 Metro, 4dr HB (The Silver Bullet) has 230,000 miles on it now. At 207,000, I rebuilt the engine and replaced the tranny with a JDM. After 23,000 on the rebuild, an exhaust valve has already decided to check out on me.:smokin: Oh well, at least the part I rebuilt is still going strong. Another reman head will put me in good tune again.

I bought a '96 "big block 4 banger" auto for $125 3 years ago it now has 248k. I also have a '99 3 banger with 181k. I love these cars. Just change the oil and they last forever. :smokin:

My 93 has just hit 247,000 and runs great. The engine has not been touched and it even has the original clutch that works fine. Car starts and runs great and uses about a quart of oil between changes.

just lookin' at this thread ..... i replied a year ago and now i have about 338k. my driving has seriously gone down from the old days. 'no fossil fuels for fun'.

my mpg has been low .... about 40 ..... since all i do is very short trips. i need to do a bit of maintenance too i guess .... haven't touched it since the rebuild. been lazy .... lazier.

I probably don't qualify to be a member of this site now, that I sold my Metro. I rebuilt the engine at 207,000 only because the rear main seal and front tranny seal were leaking to beat hell. After the rebuild, it ran just as good as it did before. It had over 240,000 on it, when I sold it. My rebuild worked out pretty darned good.:smokin:

I just turned 1/4 million miles on my 2000 4cyl automatic. I need new valve seals but everything else with the engine and tranny is fine. Body is starting to rust. So far only repair besides the usual is water pump and timing belt. Home brew exhaust.

215,000 Change all oil seals, O2 sensor, PCV, new straight exhaust, cleaned carbon from EGR to exhaust manifold and rebuilt tranny. Burns no oil, purchased from a 1 owner who changed oil every 3K miles. 49 mpg, 95 2dr, manual tranny, runs great

I have a 94 xFi with 325,000, nothing internal ever done to the motor. I have however replaced the water pump, 5 timing belts, 3 sets of spark plugs, 2 sets of wires, every seal (except the oil pan) and swapped in a junkyard tranny. (lost 5th in the original). She is still running strong!

3 sets of spark plugs?

Should be 10 sets according to the maintenance schedule.

just rolled over 340,000 yesterday.

moved the timing ahead a bit and now getting about 44mpg. short trips sure cut down the efficiencies.
