1998 Rodeo Thermostat replacement

Guys I'm getting ready to change out thermostat on this Isuzu V6 3.2. I need to change it to a low temp 170 no sure what the original one is rated at but has anybody changed out a thermostat on this rodeos? What do I need to take off to get to thermostat?

Why would you change the temp of the thermostat?

I want to change it because I live in a hot climate New Mexico.

I believe the 96-97 Rodeo's came with the 170 thermostat from OEM, not sure of the 98+years, but I would stick with what ever degree the truck came with. Definitely use an OEM thermostat when you replace.
If the truck's getting too hot, changing the thermostat range isn't going to eliminate the issue.

Just read the post you put up about living in New Mexico's desert heat.
I use to live in Las Vegas, NV at 120+ degrees in the dead of summer; your OEM thermostat should work just fine as long as the cooling system is kept to par. The BIGGEST thing about living in the desert is your radiator hoses, mine seemed to need replaced about every 1 1/2-2yrs, specially the top one.

the thermostat is very tough to get to on the dohc motors.:banghead: at the least the upper intake has to come off. and while your there, might as well do the i.m.g.

I have the same vehicle isuzu rodeo 3.2 V6 DOHC and I need to replace the thermostat, how do I go about this. I have been trying to find the repair for this in mitchell shop pro. I can not find the instructions on this. Right now it looks complicate and I will remave the intake manifold and throttle body. Any suggestions, or idea where I can find the fix procedures?

look in the f.a.q. section (above) under intake maniford replacement and follow those instructions. when you get down far enough that the thermostat housing is looking at you then follow any old thermostat directions to replace it. it is not hard to replace once gotten to. getting to it is the problem on the dohc 98+ motor.

Did you ever find out where the thermostat is located and what has to come off to get to it? Mine appears to be stuck shut and needs to be replaced.
