Rpms

Back with another mystery on my hands as usual. The other day when i was driving down the highway in my 02 GT, the car did a nose dive and the rpms dropped dramaitcally. I was actually accelerating at the time when it happened, the car was at about 2500+ rpms, when it dropped down to 1000 and was doing about 55-65 mph. this is the first time it happened. After that i was having some difficulty getting the car to go over 2200 rpms, it would get to that point and you couldn't get it to go higher. If i kept hitting the gas (pumping) it would eventually go up. Does anyone have an idea of what is going on, or have had this happen to them?

Air filter, is fine, it may need a little cleaning, but i did clean it a few months back so it shouldn't be that bad. Trouble Codes? What are those? LOL unfortunetly I'm lead to believe that my car does not know how to put the check engine light on, since i never get them especially when the car is having major problems that i should have gotten one or even for stupid things like the gas cap, I won't get it... go figure.:banghead: .
I'm thinking it might be tranny related again... cause it seemed to only do this( the car not want to go over the 2200 rpms) when it went into OD, and sometimes 2nd gear.... but it could also be computer related i guess.:dunno: Unless it's my cat again starting to clog up... i dunno
