I need help with my rolla. First of all i was stuck in traffic and my check engine light came on. So i went to autozone had them read the the car. 3 errors were found. The O2 sensor before the cat, the temperature sensor, and something else i forget what it was. Anyways the guy said maybe it is just the temperature sensor throwing everything off, so i bought it and now i dont know where the heck it goes. Can someone help with the locacation of the temperature sensor. I think it is infront of the powersteering fluid resevior, but there are some many sensors i dont know where it goes.
Any help would be amazing.

Thanks!

So i went out and bought myself a car code reader. After replacing the coolent sensor, which autozone said should take care of the MIL. However the light just keeps coming back on. The first code i get is P0125- The clsd loop Fuel ctrl Insufficient Coolant Temp. What the heck is that?!?!?! Next is P0171- System to lean. How do i fix this problem?

If anyone can help diagnose what could be causing these problems that would be great.

Thanks

Tips on getting a good answer to your questions.
People trying to answer your question do not have a crystal ball.
So give them all of the info you have like year make and model and engine and transmission.
Also service cars engine and transmission service history or any recent repairs or problems.
Also a description of your problem and what it is doing or not doing.
If you have codes give up the code no.
And remember a code does not say replace the part but only points to the problem that you have to check out.
So to better help you give up all of the info you have on it.

All code no and engine and transmission info would help?

The first code i get is P0125- The clsd loop Fuel ctrl Insufficientcoolant temp sounds more like a thermostat not working right.
What is your normal engine running tempt?

Ok so...

I have a 1997 Corolla DX.. 1.8L. It is a manual transmission. What has been done to the car is a cold air intake few years ago, New timing belt 10,000 miles ago (Toyota dealer). New starter 15,000 miles ago (garage down the street). Also this may have something to do with it.. The morning on the day the light came on was cool, so to keep the car from stalling i gave her a little gas, which led to ALOT of blue smoke.. Oil i know but that is when the light came on.. it wasnt immediate it was in the afternoon on my drive home. The only codes that i am getting are P0125 and P0171. Also i am getting 2 (inc) 02 sensor, catalyst.
The very first time the light came on the temperature gage droped and then went back to normal... as i was looking down when the light came on.. My car has been running right in the middle of the gauge (always). Also i did a quick flush of my radiator.
P.S. My ehaust does not smell the same anymore.. its hard to explain but it doesnt smell the same.. like eggs i think. Which is the CAT right?
I hope this will help!!
Thanks!

I would go a new thermostat and watch that the tempt gauge.
Also be aware there is 2 different coolant tempt sensors.
One for gauge and one for the PCM.
Make sure you changed the one for the pcm.
Check the pcm tempt tempt sensor on a scanner and see if it is reading right.
Clear coes and recheck and let us know what code comes back first.

About the two different sensors...

One is right next to the air cleaner which is the one that goes to the temp gauge.. i only know this b/c i unhooked it and the temp gauge didnt move... So where is the second one.. i read on another forum that they are almost interchangable.. i just dont know where it is...

Would a new thermostat really help. Anyways that is at least an easy replacement..
Thanks for all the help!

It is on the rear of engine.
What is the normal engine running tempt.
To test it and see if it is working you are going to need a engine capable scanner to read it or run the test for code 125 or I71.
Make sure engine is gettng up to normal tempt 195 degrees and the PCM coolant senser is working good.

Here is the repair flow charts for code 125 and 171
http://members.troublecodes.net/crunch/97corol.pdf
As you can see in them the 02 sensor can be causing a code 125 as well as the engine tempt.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

well i am a little confused... Today i went to the store check engine light was on.. Get in my car to leave.. check engine light turns off.. I know that this is good, however i have already bought a new car knowing that i need a new clutch and variuous other things, but the check engine light just made it easier to say good bye... Will the light come back on.. after all it has been on for about a month.
I doubt this has anything to do with it.. but i am returning the car back to stock, took out the subwoofer and wires, and put the stock air cleaner back in. Anyways the light is now off.. But i doubt it will be off for long.. or am i mistaken in thinking that..
