Polizei 144 Ferrari 550 Maranello

This is a fun project i planned to do for quite awhile. I had 3 chioces to fix the livery on , 575M , 550M and Gallardo. After looking at all 3 kits , i felt that the 550M was the best fit as the front grill had 2 lights that could easily converted to police lights ( the ones with blue and red ). This car is based on the Gumball Rally Team , Team Polizei 144 with is headed by Alex. Aftering watching the Gumball Rally 3000 2006 , i thought that the design on the Bentley cont GT was really beautiful and fierce looking.

The fitting has abit of problems so far during the prefix.. have to use abit of pressure to put it in place.

Pictures of the fitting problems... Front not as bad but it has to be glued slowly to make it fit. Test fit the wing as well to see how it looks like...

I need some help in choosing which rims i should use , Kindly leave your suggestions :D

I cant really choose for paint colours... So if u have any ideas im quite open to it. But I need more response so i can base my decision on afew opinions instead of just 1 or 2. Thanks!

Italian Red , Racing White , Pure White , Pearl White , Black , Gun Metal , Metallic Blue , Yellow

Im leaning towards the dark colours with Bright Orange or Yellow Decals.

Gunmetal would look cool as color for the Polizei-Ferrari. And I´d suggest the first wheels (they look like the ones from the Enzo??). But don´t paint them silver, make matt alloy-colorish...

Hey godfather .. been awhile man! Hows the original teile? still working on it?

I had a little fun with my rims.. here are two different tones. Metalizers on both but the base coat was different. I kinda like the first one as its a Black chrome look , maybe ill sand it down abit and use the metailzers again.

Hi, nice project you're attempting.

I'd choose the 1st or 2nd set - painted to match the white decals you have, should be a stunner (white w/ a little brake dust).

Update on brakes..

I felt that the standard 550M brakes are rubbish.. way to small for my liking and way too small for a Ferrari! So i took my extra set of brakes from the F430 and planned out how to fix them on the 550M.

Front brakes were trimmed and open up the fitting hole. As u can see the left is the original 550 part.. and the right is the modified part

Rear brakes had to be drilled so that it could fit into the molded in suspension system. Also i cut out open it to fix into the mold design

I'm using the 575 brakes for me 575 Maranello. :rolleyes:
Anyway 550 and 575 brakes are the same. Hope Fujimi do some changes for the SuperAmercia kit.

Alrighty... Today i finally got the decals template printed on paper for a test print... Heres the revised deisgn... Ill be adding more decals once i get the idea right.

Looking good! I think the wheels and brakes came out excellent! IMHO the car looks pretty cool in white... You given us all these test-shots with the decals over white primer, and I'm almost sold on white as the final color. Your call. If you really hate white, maybe go with the black to resemble the Bentley you posted.

Paint update... Today i went to take my spray cans from the hobby shop... bought afew at one time as i need to restock! took a picture of my spray cans for fun.. and i think im :screwy: spending that much just on colours... not counting the primer + clear...

Colours for the car is Dark mica blue and Racing white

Model was already primed awhile back .. I applied the racing white on parts that were suppose to be white "duh" ok i know its obvious .. Reason for racing white is that , it gives a more creamy look which i feel is much more interesting then pure white or matt white which is too clean. Might be hard to see but there quite a obvious tone the white to me.

Something i did while waiting for the paint to dry. Chrome parts are metalizers.. addictive stuff one u start!

After 2 mist coats of Metallic Blue and one wet coat. Heres what u get!

Now after applying the Dark mica blue .. 2 light coat ( different from mist as it covers the whole body properly ) 2 wet coats for shine.

Very VERY sorry for the crappy pictures. Got some sanding to do to remove flaws in the paint after which ill lay another 2 coats of paint maybe?

Just an update on the car after removing the masking + some preview of the interior
And this might be the final decal.. Bentley logos are there for fun.

Body is done more or less... i touch up as much as i can with the small leaks , other then that im hoping the decals will cover it. HOPEFULLY. Body needs sanding im spotting orange peel there. Weird thing is i dont see them with my eyes , only seeing them on pictures :screwy: .

Interior of the car... Upper dash board which is the piece with the speedometers are in gunmental.. the rest of the dash is in black and the bottom in italian red

Yea that is a lot of orange peel. If I was you, I would wet sand the car and give it one more good coat until it turns out right

Actually what u see is just a minor shine prep for the clearcoat. The actual shine of the car after polishing should look like this..

Very nice work! As a gumball fan myself this project interests me, maybe you should add some cheeky gumball logos on there too.

I want to build the yellow enzo with black wheels that participated in the 2004 gumball but dont have a way of printing decals.

Done with adobe illustrator. Hours of hard work i must say but it paid off!

Just a small update to keep things here fresh!
I did some smoke on the rear brake lights to give it a novitec look.. Also to create a more agressive look at the same time.
The ones on the left are paint clear red behind then smoke on the top .. As for the right pieces they are just spray smoke and nth else done to them.. So when the car is finished ill attach one red smoke rear light on each side (left and right) and similarly for the ones that are just smoke applied on them..

The inside of the rear lights are rubbed down with metalizers to give a real chrome shine to it.. Bringing out the rear lights.

Now down to doing the undercarriage

Basic colour was semi-gloss black , applied two coats to give it good coverage and just right for the metalizers to have a nice chrome shine.

Ok almost done ... the body decals are almost all set. After which ill move on to clearcoating them. Added some decals to show its a tuned 550 instead of a stock one and adjusted the ferrari badges on the side to improve the looks. Also added "1" to the front and sides as well as a small one at the rear to show its patrol car number 1... :p
