OBD II protocols

Does anyone know how you can determine which OBD II protocols a particular model uses?

I have a 95 regal, 3.8 L Series I engine. I'm having stalling issues, and sometimes the check engine light illuminates. I'm considering purchasing an OBD II code reader (the vehicle is OBD II compliant), but I'd like to ensure the reader supports the protocols for my car.

ok, so scratch that...the vehicle is not OBD II compliant..it's OBD I. thought it was OBD II because there was no diagnostic pin, but after some serious searching, GM removed it in the 94-95 model year (to force you to go to them for diagnosis?). So basically, I'm screwed...:frown:

Interesting - is this true for later model Regals also?

Hope not - I've got a bid on a Autoxray Code Scout as we speak.

I'd be interested in seeing any comments/observations on this topic also.

you should be fine. They switched to OBD II (100%) starting in the 1996 model year.
